No skins work for me but default?

What am I missing here? If the skin I choose is default then everything works like a dream. Catalogues the songs, flip through pages, plays 'em no probs.

Download and unzip any other skin to the skins directory or point to one of the other "basic" ones and change the necessary ini file to use that (I have tried both with and without the .skn suffix) and the program aborts on startup with the standard "Send to Microsoft blah blah blah" (I'm running Windows XP).

Changing the debug values gives me no extra information, not even the presence of a debug file.

Anyone got any idea what I'm doing wrong or what I can try to debug this problem?

Ignore the above. Today everything works and I can swap freely between the skins. I don't think I changed a damn thing so go figure.

I'd delete this post if I could so as not to clutter things up but I can't find one of them buttons either.

I'm going to leave it in case anyone else runs into something similar.  Glad it worked itself out, 'cause I had no clue!
