A local guy here in Utah is the reigning world 10-key texting champion. They changed the rules this year to allow the qwerty board that is on some of the phones. They need to have 2 divisions.

I seem to remember reading in one of the articles that she has a $39 plan with unlimited texts. Phone company must be regretting that one.

The qwerty pads would slow down, not speed up a fast texter.  Predictive text allows her to type all the same words using a fraction of the keys.  I recently upgraded my Windows SmartPhone with full qwerty keypad (Samsung i730) to a Blackberry Pearl that is actually set up in a qwerty layout, but has two letters per key.  I can already, after only having the phone for a few days, type considerably faster on the Blackberry.
