2mm Stainless Steel & CP stuff
« on: April 10, 2008, 10:55:11 pm »
My buddy and I are working on button bezels and joystick disks in 2mm stainless steel.  I knocked out some CAD for him to get some better data and pricing on his end as he is not a BYOAC'er. I know it has been done before but I have not found anyone that actually sells them. My question is....

Is there a market for this type of thing???

***the third pic is something that I just slapped together***

I use 2mm sheet metal

the best solution even how you have wooden panel - better to give sheet metal

 ;)

I sell my washers for $5 each and the single button bezels for $2.50 each if that helps.

It would be good if you could produce some of the larger button bezels. Ive had a few people ask me if I could make some for them but I dont have access to a lazer/water jet cutter. I CNC milled mine for my cab and it is just too labour intensive to sell them (my fingers are bleeding from polishing as i speak!)

Its a matter of opinion but ive found 1.5mm is perfect for the washer thickness.

There is the answer I was looking for.  ;D

We are just playing around at this stage but we would be happy to fill the niche if possible. 1.5mm is ideal. That is great to know as well! Thanks a TON........

Which larger buttons are you speaking of? Manufacturer and type?

Awesome vid Kowal, I couldnt see that at work this morning  8)

Skippy, I didn't mean bigger buttons, I meant the larger pieces of material like in your bottom model (and Kowals video)

Ahhh.....I understand.

The only problem I see with that, which I am sure you know, is that the cost would go up quite a bit as then you get into a bit more detail and time.

If I knew that I could get away with a few set layouts I would consider it but some people have the small hands and might want the buttons closer or the opposite. I know of just a few 'normal' layouts..
Straight 1, 2, 3, 4
Arched 3 or 4
Arched 6 button
Straight 6 button
Arched 7 Neo

Yeah that what I would do if I was you.

It might be worth you knocking up some models of the different types and then doing a poll to see which are popular. It would also give you an idea of what interest there is.

Thanks! I did post a poll just now and hope to get a feel for what the majority are doing. I have a feeling they are mainly 6 straight and 6 arched pairs with a few Neo 7's here and there for the most part.

Looks like it's back to the CAD tonight!  ;D
