MaLa Issues....
« on: March 18, 2007, 03:43:13 pm »
Hey guys I am having  a few of problems with MaLa.  let me first say that I really like the look and feel of this FE.  That sad, I am having 2 main issues I was hoping someone could help me with.  First the setup:

v.113 command line mame, MaLa, plenty good pc,

The issues I am having are:

1.  I can't get Mala to keep my selection to "skip the disclaimer"  The end result being that i keep getting the disclaimer anyway.  I click on the box inside "miscellaneous" under "Mame Config" - "Basics".  It shows that it is checked but when I click ok an open a game, I still get the disclaimer.  Then I go back in to check and sure enough, the box is not checked.  I have done this several times and it still doesn't work!!  I have also tried a fresh install of MaLa, still no joy.

2.  Under the same basic config tab where you put the paths for snaps, nvram, memcard, etc - I fill all of those in INCLUDING the artwork path.  Then I click ok and when I go back into the config tab, all paths are saved and shown EXCEPT the artwork.  That field is blank.  However, when I start a game, the bezel is shown so I know the artwork is there and being seen by mame, I just don't know why mala keeps clearing the field.

3.  I have all the CP's and marquees and flyers in their respective folders and I know they are there.  How do I call them up when running MaLa?  Is it even possible or are they not supported in MaLa.

Thanks!

1) Repsonse is in your other posting

2) Edit mame.ini with notepad and see if that makes a difference.

3) You can show all of those. You just need a Layout (or modify or design one) that supports those things.

Same issues and I can't figure out why.  Do any of you have the same problems (listed above) with mala when running the latest version and .113 mame?

If there are more details you can give that would help... You are describing symtoms but not what exact step you have taken

Anyway try:

1) Don't use mame config tool. Have a look mame.ini  . Try setting the folowing to 1 not 0 :  (use notepad to edit)
# CONFIGURATION OPTIONS
skip_gameinfo           1

2) Don't use mame config tool. Have a look mame.ini  .   (use notepad to edit)
# CORE SEARCH PATH OPTIONS
#
rompath                   roms
samplepath                samples
artpath                   artwork
ctrlrpath                 ctrlr
inipath                   .;ini
fontpath                  .

#
# ARTWORK OPTIONS
#
artwork_crop              0
use_backdrops             1
use_overlays              1
use_bezels                1

3) What did you do?

My settings were as you indicated below.  The game info does get skipped.  However, the disclaimer is not skipped - the one that says move the joystick left and right or press ok.  In the latest version of Mala under config there is a tab (miscellaneous) where you can clcik to skip game info and disclaimer.  I click on the box to skip disclaimer.  The box gets checked.  I click ok at the bottom to return to the main configuration.  The disclaimers for the games are still there and do not get skipped.  When I go back into the config tab to check the settings again, the skip disclaimer check box that was once checked is unchecked..... :timebomb:

That is because the latest versions of mame does not support skipping that screen .  All this MaLa editor does is change the values in mame.ini (no diffrent to doing it yourself)
MaLa's built in mame configurator is designed to also cater for older mame versions that can skip the disclaimer.

However. If you search this forum you will find ways to recompile mame into a state where it will skip it  or someone out there may offer you a copy  ;)

Thanks for the great info guys.  I appreciate it.  Now I know I am not going crazy.  I had tried everything I could think of and I was getting frustrated.  Thanks again!

My only caveat would be that if it's true that the latest versions of MAME don't support skipping the disclaimer, then how does GameEx do it.  Because I have that as well and it skips them just fine with MAME .113.......

I think GameEX sends a cursor left and cursor right key to MAME?

What?!  Why would this feature not be supported in Mame?  Even from the back row, here, I'm beginning to think Fozzy is right on with his opinion of mame dev....

GameEx send 'o' 'k' a few times to Mame after it's launched. This is how it skips the disclaimer screen.
