One last question for Mala gurus
« on: March 17, 2007, 04:22:26 pm »
I realize this isn't a Mala support forum but I was unable to register on the offical Mala forum so I'm hoping for some help here.

I've got Mala up and running nearly perfectly.
Animated layouts, multiple emulators, the works. I do, however have 2 quick questions I'm hoping someone will shed some light on.
My first question is regarding an issue I'm having scrolling through the game list. My controller config is setup to move up one letter for the joystick left and right, and one line for joystick up and down.
X up and X down are empty - no controller entries.

This setup works great, but I run into an issue when I want to scroll through games - it only moves 10 games and stops. If I release the stick and press it again it scrolls through 10 more.
10 is the number of games visible in my layout - coincidence, I think not. I'm sure I changed something because it was working, but not anymore.

second question - when creating a layout is it possible to put a transparent image over a video?
I'm trying to creat a bezel with a transparent window, then place it over the video. It works for snaps but the video continues to display on top of the graphic with the transparency. Am I missing something, or is this a technical limitation of the layout designer?

Any guidance is appreciated.

loadman will be on soon enough to confirm (he's always around here somewhere  :)) but I think I can handle the second question.  Sadly, the answer is no.  Video is always on top.  I thnk I remember either loadman or swindus saying that it could be done in Direct3D, but mala doesn't use Direct3D (at least not yet.)

Someone correct me if I am wrong!

I'm using an I-pac 4.
It's running in it's default configuration, same as it has been for the last couple of years.

At least I can give up on trying to get that video layout to work. I must have spent hours playing with the z position of my layout elements last night.
Thanks for the info.

Maybe I should put a step by step guide to using the mala forum.  I don't have any issues but others have  :dunno

OK This happens when you have your scrolling acceleration up too high

Try reducing it to say 5 (see attached pic)  ;D

Then you can FLY..... through the game lists   :applaud:

Not sure if this is a bug or a lack of understanding of how Scrolling Acceleration works  :dunno

loadman - which controller do you use?  i had the same issue with my old panel (it was a minipac).  I will get it back up to test.  maybe we can help narrow it down for swindus.

That did it. I know I was futzing around with something when I broke it, just couldn't remember which setting it was.
That should be the motto for BYOAC -

"Never leave well enough alone"

Thanks for the help. It was one of those meaningless little things that was going to drive me crazy if I couldn't fix it.

Technically , It can be done as well with GDI , DirectDraw and Direct 3d.
