rca 27r410t 27" TV, no s-video, help please!!!!!
« on: March 16, 2007, 06:36:45 pm »
Alright, was ready to play my cab tonight for the first time since I redid the CP. Last time I played it everything worked fine. That was about 9months ago. So I am done with the new CP now and I decide to fire everything up tonight. Well I can't get the damn TV to work right now, the screen just says unusable signal. I made sure it was on the s-video channel. I tried a DVD player on it as well, to eliminate the computer from the equation. DVD didn't work either. I tried the s-video cable on another TV, it works fine. I checked the main board for any physical damage, nothing. I checked the actual s-video receptacle for continuity, it seems fine. Now when I connect the DVD player to the tv in question via composite video, It works. But then if I also connect s-video, I lose the composite signal, so it recognizes the s-video cable.

I have a feeling that I am going to have to replace the monitor. FYI I bought the TV from wall mart, it was a display model. Since I have had it I have probably fired it up about 20 times. Can someone please help me with this.

...if you get display with component, why not just go that way?

He said Composite , and that looks like  :censored: for video output.

Im sure if the tv had component he really would not care about the svideo at all.

the only time i have seen a message like unusable signal is when i tried to give my monitor a 75hz signal on the graphics card properties, its probably not the same problem as yours but its worth a look at

Well I would if it was actually component that I got to work, it was composite. Plus it was the DVD player I had hooked up through composite. My video card only supports DVI, VGA and S-video. Right now I got everything to work by hooking the computer to an RF modulator via svideo and then the RF modulator to the TV via Coaxial cable. The picture looks pretty terrible and the video seems to jump a lot, going back to a snowy screen when I first boot up mamewah and when I first boot a game(resolution changes?). So I cannot leave it this way  :-[ I wish I knew more about TV's so I could fix this one. Replacing it would be a huge pain in the ass.

I also got the unusable signal message when I hooked up the DVD via s-video. Also, FYI, the screen always says unusable signal, even when nothing is plugged in.

Thanks for trying guys, but if I can't figure the problem out by the end of next week I will probably end up getting a new monitor. Sheesh, more money, more time. My fiance is going to stab me.

Now we are getting to an area beyond my expertise. Can anyone suggest a good TV repair forum or somewhere I may be able to get a schematic for my TV?

Component/composite: whoops, yeah I can get those visually confused.

Look for a local TV.  In my town, craigslist has recently had tons of 27 and 32 inch TVs for less then $200...even less than a hundred bucks. And most of them are this century.
