Movie previews - New Proyect by Mikonos (Mame, Genesis, Game Gear, psx, etc)

Is a Spanish proyect. You will find movie previews from psx, genesis, game gear, Genesis CD, etc.

I will make perfect vídeos for front-ends:


Methodology (Mame example):

Mikonos Movie Proyect:

- 11025Khz, 16 bit Mono sound
- All are in 20 sec.
- 3 Mb máximun size
- 320 x 240
- Flowed animation
- Original video game format ( screen proportions)
- Video of the playing game


Ancient Mame movie previews:

- No sound
- No  the same duration
- No original screen proportions
- Size sreen deformed
- Videos of presentation &/or playing games
- Size 1-57 MB
- No flowed animation

Have all videos  the same quality? I see Super Mario Bros. (JU) (PRG0) [!] without sound; Micky Mania (U) have a lack of music.

All of my sets are distributed freely via bittorrent, however due to popular demand I also offer a DVD set by mail.  Currently the complete collection takes 7 DVD's.

Here is a post on how I am doing them now, I am now working on HiQ sets only (640x480 Xvid 56kbps MP3) as they work really well in screensaver mode as well as previews in a FE.

I have gone through 4 computers since I started this project, trying to get enough horsepower to do this right.  Here is what I am currently running:

Intel Core 2 Duo 6400 OC to 2.9Ghz per core

Sound Blaster X-Fi
WD Raptor 10000RPM 74GB
Seagate 750GB HD

Some other HD's I have almost 2TB of workspace.
Logitech G15 Keyboard with LCD display (for fraps)
Samsung 20" LCD
Sony 19" LCD
Xbox 360 Controller
Dual Boot with vista and xp pro.  XP is only for EmuMovies, nothing else is installed but what I use for this project.  I use Vista for everything else.

I set the sony monitor to 640x480 res then run the emulator fullscreen.  Using FRAPS for capturing, I then start the emulator, check through the intro sequence to see if it is good enough.  Usually I actually play the game for a minute or so while capturing then reset the emulator to capture the intro sequence.  I then exit the emulator then drop the capture into virtualdub.  I do sone quick editing, my target size per fille is about 30 seconds (usually about 20-25 seconds of gameplay then the title screen).  If it has a really good intro it may be longer.

In virtualdub I export into Xvid using quant level 4 and MP3 audio at 56kbps.  I used to use 128 but I can not tell the differance in quality and it help keep the file size down a bit. 

Last night using this process I was able to get through about 75 games.

I have used many different processes over the last couple of years, the NES was my first set and it kind of sucks.  I that set I wasn't going in and getting actual gameplay I was just recording whatever happened when you booted up the rom, thats why I label it game intros.  All of the rest I went and got actual gameplay.  I am always open for help, but I am only looking for HiQ sets at this point.  If you are interested, I would be more than happy to walk you through it, and it looks for the most part that we are exactly on the same page.

When I decided work in this, my first consideration was: " I want only playing screen", because I will want that anybody knows how the game is; the title screen not contributes to this knowledge. Itīs one difference from your project, but is not import. You use a playing  screen+tittle screen.


I use Fraps too, and Camtasia for easy and quick edition and convertion of  videos with xvid too. Is the best result for a short size archieve!

LOL, by "no freemail account" it means a POP3 account with an ISP. No Yahoo, Hotmail or such email addresses. It's nice to see you two talking like this. Circo sure could use some assistance.

The thought behind my sets has pretty much always been two-fold: 20-30 seconds of gameplay for the in menu previews, and also as an attract-mode in a video screensaver that most front-ends can do.  If the cab is just sitting there after 5min it starts playing through the videos, and at the end of each one you get the intro animation so you can see what the game is.  It is very eye catching and everyone who comes over thinks it is neat.  Many times we will be sitting and talking in the game room and you will find someone staring at the cab waiting for what is next.  That is the reason that I have changed to the new HiQ format because you could see many artifacts and glitches at full screen using 320x240 res.  Yours are very nice, and PSX is next on my list (I just about have a complete set!!).  If you are interested in #1 doing sets that I have not done yet, or #2 redoing old sets in the new HiQ format, I would love the help.  This is a lot of work for one person, and I think in tolal I have spent over 2 years on it so far.
