Pot Based Pedal Dual Strike Hack - help!
« on: March 13, 2007, 08:47:09 pm »
Thought I could do a DS hack to a pot based pedal by simply running the black/red/blue from the 5K pot to the appropriate place on the DS board, but I guess not.  I have no place to run the ground and am thinking that may be the problem.

Any advice?

Managed to get it recognized by running the pot to the X axis one (left right).  I need it on the Y axis one (up-down), tho, since steering is done on the X axis one.  :(

This all got me thinking - can you do two DS hacks and have them running at the same time?

In other words - Star Wars yoke running as a steering wheel, using the buttons and the X axis.  Then, have the pot based pedal working and have that be the Y axis for gas?  I'm guessing that's where you would put differentiate between DS 1 and DS 2 in the gamepad setup area.

Hmmm. . . maybe I need to do a joystick hack for the pedal. . .

Any input appreciated.

I was unaware that it was possible to do a pot hack for the PS2.  You sir have just taken away the rest of my already diminutive free time for the month.

He didn't say anything about a PS2 or PS/2.

Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

If you are referring to whether multiple Microsoft Sidewinder Dual Strike gamepads can be active at one time, then the answer is YES.   I hacked 6 gamepads for my 6-panel rotating driving cabinet and I wanted each controller (steering wheel, yoke, pedals, etc..) to be active all the time.   Not sure if this is what you are asking though.....

I made connections to the Dual Strike gamepad PCB to use both of the POTs as well as the buttons.  I have pictures of where the connections were made at my site:

Thanx.  I had check out one of your threads here in regards to this stuff.

The problem with the y-axis was resolved.  As embarrassing as it is, I'm gonna post it here for others as a reminder to ALWAYS CHECK YOU WORK!     :-[

When desoldering, one of the holes lost its metal around it, thus no connection.  Had to just jump to the nearby trace and that fixed it.

Still gotta try the two DS at once config now. . .
