HD upgrade for my old old old xbox
« on: March 07, 2007, 02:58:18 pm »
I have a really really old xbox, I got it about 2 months after it was released.  I already have the bios flashed and can load games from my pc, but I only have an 8gb hd.  Does anyone know a place to upgrade the HD in So cal?  I used to know a shop, but they shut down.

I would prefer not to ship because shipping would cost me $20+ round trip not including the cost of the drive I would have buy.

do you have a modchip or is it sofmodded?  If it's a modchip, all you need to do is put in a new hard drive and run an install disc like Slayers or the AIO disk.

I don't softmod Xboxes, but I'm pretty sure the process for that is fairly similar too.  It's not hard at all.  Just unplug the cables then plug in the new drive.
first off your and idiot

Man I love the internet, haha.

I seem to remember something about softmods not giving the easy capability of locking/unlocking the drive.

Unlocking \ locking isn't a problem with softmods, but installing a new harddrive involves using a computer and certain software to add your old hard drives numbers to the new drive.  I never had much success with it myself, but I think I messed something up last i tried.

Nah, it's a lot easier than that.  If you've already flashed the bios (or have a mod chip installed), then any recent installer disc will allow you to format and install the dashboard on a new drive.  AID 2.0 and up does it just fine.

any unlocked hdd would work and doesw not have to be locked to the mobo unless you want to boot the stock M$ dash or go live otehr then that you do not even need to lock it you could even hook both hdd's to the xbox and do a hot swap wich would transfer the file's from one hdd to the otehr then unhook them and hook the larger in a walla  ;)
