WTB Computer For MAME
« on: February 26, 2007, 06:11:35 pm »
Hello everybody, Im new to this site and i came here to get some information on getting stuff for my computer to build a MAME, but it kinda seems that the computer i had picked out to use isnt really gonna work for what i want. it doesnt have AGP slot or anything. So basically i was wanting to see if anyone has a computer for sale. I dont need a monitor just a good computer to use for MAME in my homemade arcade im making. heres what i would like in a package if possible>>>

Computer that has a AGP slot, and preferably a graphics card already in it. If it dont have one in it, thats fine, but it must have a AGP slot in it. The graphics card would also have to have S video. Basically the way im gonna do my MAME is run the computer to a flat screen TV through S video.  Also any extra stuff the computer has is a plus. Im not really going for nothing extremely fancy, but i would love the computer to be able to handle games like Marvel vs. Capcom and possibly even like Tekken, plus all the old school 4 player arcade games like TMNT, simpsons, X men etc.

I will buy or Trade, but the only stuff i have for trade are classic Games, NES, snes, Etc. Send me a PM or email me at parpunk@aol.com. if anyone has anything to get me started in MAME!! Also i have AOL IM under the name parpunk if someone wants to chat. I hope someone can help me out. thanks!!

I don't think there is such thing as a vga slot on a pc.  I believe you are looking for a video card that does s-video output and fits preferably in an AGP or even better a PCI-E slot.

Am I missing something here?   :dizzy:

Uh...pretty much ALL computers have VGA connectors.  If they don't have VGA,  I guess they would have DVI,  but only high end cards have DVI only (with a DVI to VGA converter).  Am I the one confused?    :dunno

just get a modded xbox instead..gamestop has them for $100. then mod it yourself or have someone mod it for you. mame runs 90% of the games full speed including marvel vs capcom and such. PM me if you are not familer with modding xboxes..I can do it for you. check console section for my thread too while you are at it.

no you had it right the first time they are called AGP accelarated graffix port for a agp graffix card and not all pc's have a vga out so if you do not have one you would need a pci graffix card if you have no agp or vga then you would have the graffix part and the vga part.

newegg.com is what I used and I have a really strong set-up for cheap.

also if you cannot do a 128mb ram upgrade on a xbox then mame stink's unless your just after the very very old games from the 70's and 80's and maybe some early 90's but that is pushing it becuase there is not enough memory in a stock xbox they only have 64mb stock.

if you mean xbox ram I have done a few but they are not easy and take a bit of time to get right the first time.
