Dual Monitor Support... Nvidia Driver issues.
« on: April 04, 2003, 08:55:36 pm »
Hey gang.  I am running a Gforce4 4200 card with duel head.  however I was having nothing but fits with VJ.  It just would not run on my card.  Doing some research (actually RTFM) at nvidia's site I found the problem.  I thought I would pass it along.

Nvidia uses a program called nview to control it's duel head video cards.  This "expands" the feature set of the duel heads.  There are 3 modes under nview.  The Dualview mode, clone mode and span mode.  Here's where I tripped up.  At first look (if you are just poking around) it appears that the Horizontal span mode is what you want.  It is not.  Duelview and clone/span are mutally exclusive.  You can not run both.  nView also installs "phantom monitors" to enable their modes.(looking in device manager it shows 4 monitors in my list).  Span mode is not standard windows.  It is a function of the nview program.  So what I had was span mode on a virtual monitor and therefore VJ could not detect my duel head card at all.  Nvidia's drivers made it look like everything was fine.  So what you need to do to get VJ to work on nvidia based cards is select the duel view mode (this is in display in the control panel) then set both the resolutions of monitor 1 and 2 (also in the display menu.  I set both mine to 1024x768).  Then install the drivers for your monitor or just set monitor to plug and play monitor.  Delete the virtual monitors (default monitor listed in the device manager).

So as it turns out Duelview mode is that standard windows mode that vj likes and the other modes (which look correct at first inspection) are created by the nvidia driver program nview.

So now my VJ duel head works great.  Man is it cool...   I don't have any videos or lyrics though... off to kazaa :).

here is a link to the nview manual.  read it and it will clear up any issues you might have if my explanation was not clear for you.

I hope this helps you guys.  This was driving me nuts... as always RTFM!!!!!!!!

I don't stop and ask for directions when I"m lost either... haha.. map?  whats that...
