My favorite new discovery is Galaga 3. Very difficult and very fun.
I also like robotron. I never played it before but what an adrenilin rush.
Space Fury is cool too.

My wife likes Chicken Shift. I never heard of it before. It tis impossible for me to play after a few beers.

Well here's my late 2 cents: Bull Fight from Sega is great game. Lots of technique, difficulty ramps up nicely. I recommend.

Yeah, I played a lot of Darius of college. They had one in the basement of the Student Union. The original cab was a monster. Two players with three monitors. Two up top, and one sunk down in the cab which was reflected off of a mirror. It's a lot of fun, even though I never got very good at it. Tried playing it on the TV the other night. Kinda painful. You can't really see anything. Just little blurs on the screen. $:-\$

I don't think I would call this a Defender-type game, though. I'm pretty sure that the first game of this type was Scramble. Check it out if you haven't. It's an oldie, but you'll recognize that the gameplay is about 99% identical.

I too am fond of the claassics.. But the game that raelly got me goin was ASTRON BELT.. But,i havent seen it for mame.. Is there a conversion of it??

Astron belt was a Laser Disc game so you won't see it in MAME. Check out Daphne for emulating laser Disc games...

I actualy really loved playing wacko in the arcade, unfortunately the mame version just doesn't quite make it (maybe a trackball will help), but hey these guys do fantastic work, and far be it for me to complain about one little game, another off the wall game i use to play frequently was monster bash

Strange, Mame seems to play Wacko just fine for me!

That's the reason, i'm creating the mameiac (See other post). So people can post reviews of games they discovered, which are actually really fun. If anyone wants to review one of these games and send it for the site, i'd really appreciate it.

A few of my favorites.

New Rally-X - This is just sooo much better than Rally-X.

Space Zap - Very intense. Best to have a short handled 4way for this one. (Anyone out there have a real Space Zap machine?)

Jack the Giantkiller - I actually own a real machine now. But I first found it in MAME. It has a fairly steep learning curve to it. You are going to die ALOT until you get the hang of it. Kind of like Donkey Kong with the difficult level of Stargate.

Avalanche - This one is a lot like Kaboom! for the 2600, except way harder.

Uo Poko - The bestest Puzzle Game ever. Too bad it never made it to the states. I wanted to get a real machine. But my only option was to import a PCB, and then it still wouldn't come with any graphics or anything, so I didn't get it.

Do! Run Run - Another hard one. It took me forever to get good at this. You will need a 4-way for this one.

I totally agree on Uo Poko - Incredibly addictive

Do! Run Run is actually one of my all time favourites. Me and friend used to battle for the high score on a local arcade. Don't know if we were any good or if it was just that no one else was playing it though

I do remember that I was much better at it before than when playing it now. Could be that I only have a 8-way on my cabinet.

Some of the new games I've discovered (besides Uo Poko) are :

Bank Panic - Very simple but great gameplay
Gemini Wing - Nice shooter
Ribbit - Updated frogger
Penguin-Kun Wars - Very fun game

Yes I do.. its an awesome game.. I dont care about the naked chicks,(my wife hates these games..)

In the same post was Space Zap.. I've been playing that since I got into mame- it's very cool when you get into that "zone" (you know exactly what I mean)

The one I found again today after finding in a similar way before is Butasan. Sorta like dodge ball, with pigs, and gas masks, and exploding balls, and very addictive music

Burglar X is pretty cool also- your character appears to be a skinhead(or a girl) banditoin different maze environments collecting coins. Your main attack is to head-butt the other goofy characters, you also have what appears to be a "fart" button(don't ask), and indestructible motor scooters. Very Bizarre

Probably the strangest I've found is Ganbare Ginkun, which is a ton of mini-games that look like hand drawn stick figures

I totally agree about Bank Panic. That is a great, and very addictive game. Used to play it all the time when I was a kid in the arcade at Wonderland.

Whoopie is cool. I played it the other night after reading this thread. Reminds me of Elevator Action. Took me forever to figure out you can 'shoot' the bad guys multiple times and drop them to the next floor.

Renegade was great...I remember playing the hell out of that game...it wasnt as cartoony as double dragon...and you cuold pick up weapons if I remember.....that was fun....doing those high-kicks to the heads of your enemies....however it was hard, I recall the first screen in the subway it was you versus like 15 guys or something ridiculous.
