WTB: 25"-27" VGA/SVGA Arcade Monitor
« on: March 27, 2003, 05:06:10 pm »
I am looking for an arcade monitor 25-27" in size (the physical dimentions are much more important) that runs 800x600 minimum resolution with a standard VGA monitor cable.  I have seen the WG models but would really like to spend less money.  Please let me know if you have one or know where I can get one.  If I can pick it up that would be even better as shipping on something this size is not cheap, I live in Austin Tx.

NO 19" MONITORS PLEASE!

Spend less money than what??  The $600 that you have seen for WG D9200's??

Wells-Gardner has a few REFURBISHED D9200 that they are selling for $325.  I just ordered one today (about 4 hours ago).  Worth a shot, especially since Happs is selling them for $625 and you can get it (albeit refurbed) for $325.

Just call Fran at Wells-Gardner and she will hook you up!!

Later,
Fat-Johnny

According to the specs on their website the D9200 does not even run 800x600 resolution.  This one will not work for me.

The D9200 does run 800x600, despite what their specs read.  You can even call WG and ask them if you want more proof.

I don't know what price you've seen for the D9200 but the refurbished deal above sounds great, I would have went that route if I'd known about it.  Otherwise, you can get it for about $450 if you shop around a little.

Hmmmm, interesting.  I was just working off of their published data sheet for this model which states a reaolution of 640x480.  Here's a link to the data sheet:  http://www.wellsgardner.com/wellsgardner31/supportdata/27%20inch%20D9200%20black%20&%20white.pdf

As far as pricing for them goes, on their website they sell them for $480-495.  I'm not sure what the difference is in the three models, the spec sheet is the same and they do not say what the difference(s) are.  Here's a link to that page:  http://www.wellsgardner.com/wellsgardner31/catalog.cfm?dest=itempg&itemid=596&secid=4&linkon=subsection&linkid=8  I'm sure that you can find them cheaper elsewhere if you do some searching.

Anyhow, I still need a monitor as I described in my original post.  Does anyone have any leads?  If so please provide feedback on the monitor and a link to where I can get it.

Their spec sheet says VGA: 640x480 but it doesn't say that it won't support 800x600.  I'm thinking that if you look at the max frequencies and know the math you may discover that the monitor can do 800x600.  Regardless, WG admits it does 800x600 and there are plenty of us who have it and use 800x600.  Maybe the original reason they created this monitor was for a 640x480 application replacement?  Who knows.

You should really consider a refurbished D9200.  I honestly think you'll be looking for a very long time and will need a lot of luck to find a VGA monitor of that size for less.  And even if you do, it is likely it won't have all the nice options of the D9200.  My experience with WG has been very positive and I honestly don't think you can go wrong with that monitor, even if refurbished.  You won't be disappointed.

(Do I sound like a WG salesman or what??)

I'm looking for a brand new Mercedes for under $100.... Let me know if you stumble across one during your monitor hunt.

Wade,

Thank you for the info, I will look into this one a bit more.  I read the specs and passed it by since it was not what I was looking for (according to the posted specs).  Again, thank you for the info.    :)

Brax,

Smart ass comments are the reason I hesitate to even ask for assistance on boards like this.  It is a waste of my time to get the email that says someone replied, come here and read these types of replies.  It's very frustrating!!  Thanx for the help....NOT!!!   >:(

point 1: You're asking about a high end monitor.
point 2: The refurbished WG monitors are a great deal.
point 3: You want something better yet.
Comments like yours are what initiates sarcasm like mine.

You can't have your cake and eat it too. I thought I was making that obvious by lining my comments with humourous sarcasm.

I guess I have to be blunt.
*sigh*
What you're asking for isn't reasonable.
The wg monitors are a great deal for what they do for you. The best you can buy for our application as far as i'm concerned.

Too bad I can't afford it ;)

Brax,

If you look back at the original post what I want is not unreasonable.  I want a specific size monitor with a minimum specified resolution but I did not anywhere say I wanted it for an unreasonable price.  In face I never said what I wanted to pay.  All I asked for was the best deal that anyone has seen.  Which seems to be the WG referb.  But I was unaware that they would run the resolution I requested as they themselves say that it runs a lower resolution than what I am looking for.  I will be contacting them though to confirm the resolution that it will run at and probably purchasing one if what others here say is confirmed about the resolution.

So with this in mind I'm not sure what it was that I said that warrented the sarcasm.  It's not like I said I would only pay $10 for it!

All I was doing was seeking the best deal that anyone here has seem.  I do not feel that this warrents the sarcasm.

*shrug*

Oh well.  No hard feelings.

One more thing, you might want to contact them sooner than later if you are still considering a refurb.  I don't know how good of a supply of these they carry!

How about your initial total disregard to what wade was telling you?  The WG 9200 can run @800x600.  Many people here have them (like wade said) and can confirm this, including me.

...Like brax said, for the application verses what your requirements are, you can't do any better.

deathmonk,

I didn't disregard what wade was saying, I was just suprised based upon the manufacturers published specs.  I did say that I WILL be calling them about ordering one!

I do appretiate the information from everyone who is running this unit at a higher than advertised resolution with no problems.  This helps a lot.

Just in case you are wondering if it is possible for us to damage our D9200's by trying the wrong rate/resolution, I don't believe it is.  The electronics will display "out of range" if a resolution is attempted that isn't in the valid range for the monitor.  This monitor is gravy!
