KeyWhiz or KeyWhiz Max?

I've decided on the encoder I want to get: the KeyWhiz.  

Here's my problem: what, besides the external keyboard plug, is the difference between the standard and the Max?

The Eco version is not even an option.  No way am I going to solder all those wires on it.  My soldering skills stink.

If you were going to buy the KeyWiz Max you should buy an I-Pac 2 instead; they are alomst the same price, and the I-Pac 2 is tryed and true.

kw has the 4 extra inputs, ipac2 has a non-switched pass thru.. kw doesn't have num/scroll/caps led capability yet, ipac does..they are similar, but don't base your decision on price alone..   (heck, roller skates were tried and true, inline were similar, but different..(If anyone can think of a different analogy, I'm all ears:-)

I hate to say it, but it's pretty much based on price.

I don't need that many inputs, as my cabinet is only going to be two player (six buttons per player).

Besides the keyboard plug and switch, nothing... There's no difference between the standard model key wiz and the max model key wiz that I know of except the keyboard plug/switch... (and if you were so inclined - which it doesn't sound like you are: you could solder on the ps/2 connector and switch yourself to make a standard into a quasi-max model)

I have a standard model key wiz, and was glad I opted for the standard (i.e. no soldering, yet still cheap domestically) and I didn't need the "Pro" as I am using a USB wireless keyboard in parallel with the ps/2 port key wiz...

So far so good... I'm still play testing, so I'm not quite ready to shlop together my review of the unit... but the functionality works great so far.

Thanks.  I wish the website did go into those details.  Give the details on the 'Eco' page, then on the standard page say "All the features of the Eco, but including..." and on the Max "All the features of the standard model, but including..."

Looks like I'm going to go for the standard model, as I don't plan on hooking up a keybord to it after, and if I do, well, I can just plug one in.  No biggie.

The I-Pac 2 is 39$ the KeyWiz standard is 33.95. (I know Andy charges something like 18.00$ shipping though)

There is no real difference between the Standard KeyWiz and the Max KeyWiz so if you feel like for some reason you really don't want to use the I-Pac 2, I think you should get the KeyWiz Standard.

If you have a USB Keyboard then get the Standard. I bought the Max and the passthrough is either on or off so if you needed to type something you have to switch it, then if you want to play a game you have to switch it back and then load the keyset. It became quite a pain so I bought a usb keyboard and my custom keyset loads with windows so there is no switching. For ease of use and price I highly recommend the KeyWiz Standard.

I'm running Windows so I just threw the software program in my startup folder with the command line altered. It's well listed in the intructions on the diskette. You just add something like -p -a to load the A set on start-up.

Hoo ya!  Now there's a reason to spend the extra dough.

It's funny...I'd gladly spend the money on an IPAC if the shipping wasn't so darn high.  I'm glad this came my way.  Right now I've got a (very, veeeeery bad) keyboard hack.  It just doesn't make me happy.  Probably because I screwed up pretty badly.
