trash aka curb find pc tower that needed formatting.
« on: October 13, 2008, 08:42:59 pm »
on my way to a buddy house i noticed a blueish blur a few feet away and as i came closer to it i noticed it was an computer tower beside the curb aka trash.

i looked at it and it looked to be in great shape an all i heard was ratlling when i picked up still i said i would use it for parts or just the cool looking case.

i then opened it up at my buddy's house and noticed the floppy was dangling.

after making sure nothing was touching metal and all connections were secure i press the powered button and BAM the computer turned right now but took almost 40 minutes to load..

its by far the worst possible case of spyware/virus infection i have everseen..

after it loaded i said S.O.B this thing needs wiping out asap.

well 20 minutes later i had windows xp up and running its a like a whole new computer!

i have tested everything from the memory to the processor to the ram and there is nothing wrong with the tower its just was bogged down with spyware.

why anyone would throw such a nice machine away is beyond me!

anyway here are the specs on the HP pavilion a405n i found..

2.7ghz celeron
512mb ddr
80gb hdd
dvd-rom
cd-rw drive
sd/mmc/sdhc/md.memory card readers
firewire
plenty of usb ports
modem'
ethernet
etc

next i am going to throw a video card with tv-out in and put it to good use..

in the mean time i will be using this in my mame cab.. :notworthy:

An excellent find indeed.  Grab one for me on the next visit to your friend's house.

Reminds me of a conversation I had with a co-worker a few months back about how you can actually rewrite to a HD and that they're not "usable 'till full".  It's funny how little some people know about computers in the computer age...
If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

Because it became too slow.  Lack of knowledge to clean up what they have made them get a new machine and toss the old one.

Yeah, the original owner is lucky that you didn't copy their personal files before you wiped it.  Or did you?    >:D

Either way, great find.  Even without a hard drive it would've been a great find.

Congrats.
