I'll be damned.  Chad made a funny. I'd +fu you, but we both know that's not possible anymore.

Oh, and so as not to derail this thread, I'm looking for someone similar in the Detroit Metro area that can take a look at a  17" kiosk monitor that has gone blurry.

If they look at it, won't they conclude that it's blurry?

Yep, it needs adjusting, or a cap, I have no idea.  But it whistles, so it'll go along swimmingly with robot8319's humming monitor.

It's a standard 17" crt monitor with an ELO overlay, sitting inside a nice big metal case.  Problem is it needs to be adjusted or replaced, but the new monitor will need to fit the ELO overlay.  I have another 17" touchscreen that I'm thinking of decasing and throwing in the kiosk casing if the bezel will line up and the curvature of the screen will line up with the bezel.

I have a monitor that can fart the alphabet. We should start a band.

Hey, I live in Raleigh but unfortunately I'm not really set up to make house calls and repair stuff.  Does the game come up at all or just the humming noise?  To see if it's the power supply, you could try hooking up a regular AT power supply to the MVS board and see if you can hear any of the game sounds.  You won't be able to power up the monitor but if you hear the game sounds, then you'll know the power supply is bad.  As far as monitors go, you'd need to try a known good working monitor, or put a regular RGB monitor  on it.  But I'd start with the power supply because if the monitor was bad, you should still be able to hear the game start up.  Also, if you want to get rid of it down the road, let me know, I'm in the market for one :).

Well, let's try saying this.

Monitors don't hum.

Where is the hum coming from?  99% likelihood it is the speakers, thus being almost as likely some type of feedback.  Check the power source for AC ripple, swap in a different JAMMA board and see if the hum goes away.  Hum goes away, your problem is the MVS board.  Hum stays, it's in the wiring or power supply.
