Empty Pacman Case
« on: October 06, 2006, 08:41:21 am »
is this worth rescuing? It looks pretty rough.

Edit to add. I one one that is now a mame machine and was thinking of restoring it. (still runing mame with pacman) So I am wondering if I should restore mine or this one.

Yes, most definately save that one.  Most of the side art is still intact.  The faded portion of the cab should touch up nice with some paint.  It's hard to find a pacman without at least some fading on the sides where players have put their hands.  Repaint the control panel with black rustoleum paint, get a new CPO and it's good to go.  I don't think it's in that bad of shape, i've seen much worse.

YES!

The cabinet art is the hard part (although if you have already printed art, this may be irrelevant) and that looks great, at least compared to my Pac project!

Cheers.

I have not printed the art yet. I have been working on some projects around the house so the wife does not skin me..... :o

I have been gathering parts and info for (too) many upcoming projects. I just happened to run across this....(i must stop looking for this stuff)

I did manage to get 60 amps of Florida's finest power run into the game room though.

I hope to begin project announcements in the next week or two.

If I win the lottery in the mean time it will probably speed things up quite a bit......

Ok guys here is another question.....

will it be cheaper to mame this or get a pacman pcb and jamma adapter?

Taking into account a new computer, ipac arcade vga......

Am waiting on pics of the other side now. This thing is 150 miles away from me  :( and I don't want any suprises!

he wants $100.00 for this thing.

Is this just an empty cab, or does it have some guts, such as at least a monitor?

If you would have to buy everything to make an original pacman, you would definitely be better off picking up a free or very cheap junk pentium 1 cpu, and a 19"monitor. I am getting the vibe that you aren't going to go all out on the refurb, so there is no point spending several hundred on original equipment.

Also, if it is an empty cabinet definitely talk the guy down from $100.

It is empty, no monitor.

it seems that the CP Glass with bezel and the Coin door would cost me at least that. All of which I would have to buy if I restored the one I own.

I am not sure what you consider going all out. My plan is to have nice side art, new CP overlay and marquee. Ect.

Edited to add: However I agree that $100 is usually more then I am willing to spend on an empty cab.

Me too, but I'd probably pay that much for this one.

I just picked up a Pacman cab, and I payed $150 cdn for it.  It's very solid, but needs repaint. It's complete minus PCB, but I just picked on up up for it on E-Bay.  Just need time to assemble.  I think $100 for just the case with no monitor is a tad to much.

I agree, I think I am going to pass on this one. It really is not so much the money, but the 300 mile round trip drive in addition to the $100

I will hold out till the auction on the 21st and see what I can pick up there.

Thank for the input guys.

I did that and paid that for my MS Pac
well... I just reconfirmed with my wife
150 for MS pac and free super pac
or 75 for each ...can not remember
+ 300 pluss miles there and 300 miles back
emplty cabs....

It all depends on were you live., and how well you like to take road trips.

My wife and I love our road trips... The arcades were are excuse to get out.
drove up to IL. grabed a hotel, hot tubed all night and nice dinner.
next morning grabed the arcades and drove back home.
super Pac still have done nothing with. Ms Pack ... had running for a few months and now stored for latter use

would I do the trip you talk about? HELL YES! Wife and I need another day off  ( and you have somthing to remember the trip forever)

Well I finally got a response from the seller, they are going to try to get me a pic of the other side which they say looks about the same.

But they want to wait a week apparently to see if they can get even more money for it!

I have two empty Pac-Man cabinets here in California that look very similar to the one you're looking at. Even the sideart is in very similar condition, maybe even a little better.

I've been trying to give them away when the wife does the garage sale thing, but no-one will take them, not even for free! Maybe it's the mindset out here....but I'd consider myself lucky to get even $20 per cab for them....much less 100.00, I think that is ridiculous. Just my opinion thou.

Too bad you're on the other coast, I'd definately HOOK YOU UP!

Thanks, I appreciate the sentiment.

Yeah the "tone" of the emails were a bit arrogant which really turned me off. And for the record I never even mentioned reducing the price and that is the tone I got....

Oh well
