Japanese Trackballs?
« on: October 03, 2006, 11:32:15 pm »
I'm working on a Japanese style desktop controller...I've already figured out the joysticks (Seimitsu), buttons (Sanwa), and spinner(Tornado spinner with a custom top) ...Does anyone know what kind of trackballs are used in Japanese machines?  There are a few Japanese games that use them - Irritating Maze, Birdie King , etc...

I can only say that Tornado spinner is very weak for MAME. I have one.

The trackballs listed by Sanwa are actually copies of the standard Happs ones.....  They're pretty much interchangeable with each other (they may even be Happs ones with a different name on them. At least the ones I've come across in real arcade machines are.

Most bottles and jars contain at least twenty-five percent recycled Pacman.
And research indicates that Space Invaders are strongly attracted to people who have recently eaten meat pies.

Does it really matter? All you see from the top of the panel is the ball -- a sphere is a sphere no matter what country you're in.

Doesn't Irritating Maze use a big honkin 4 1/2" trackball?  Would be funny to try and play Centipede with that sucker.

They are Happs trackballs...I found a friend in Japan with a machine, and lo and behold, it actually even says Happ on the one he has.
