5.25 drive cage thingy

all i need is a cage going from top to bottom, DVD drive 5.25", a 5.25" bay empty, then a 3.5"drive bay for a hard drive.

thats all i need is a cage but ebay and maplins don't seem to do that!

it just needs to be able to screw on to a bit of board with holes in it for the bays to poke through.


incase your wondering i want it because it does not only make life easier but looks smart haveing it neatly in the bottom of my arcade cab incase i need to load more things on in future.

Rip one out of an old computer.   Get the old computer from someone who is throwing it out or pick one up at goodwill or the like for a few dollars.

     My opinion goes along with the rest, just use an old atx case. 

     I actually found an old atx case in my neighbors trash, and it turned out very well ( After I hacked it up quite a bit ). 
 
     On a side note, some hard drive bays are designed to be removable which makes them very easy to mount in a cabinet.  On the other hand, I haven't seen a case that has a removable 5.25" bay (In my situation I am not using a DVD or CD-Rom Drive, just USB, so it wasn't an issue ).

The other popular option seems to be pipe strapping-I keep forgetting to pick it up, going to have to now that I have the CP mounted on the cabinet and can't put off sticking in the computer because I kept playing at the table

I mounted a 5-1/4" drive cge to the top of the coin box... fits perfect and makes the drives accessible behind the coin door.

We have an external USB DVD-RW drive at work, and the drive is mounted in its box with small L-brackets. That might be another option.

that cage is exactly what i want but not behind a coin mech as mine isnt situated like that

Ripped.  It was riveted in, so it took some leverage from a big screwdriver and brute force from two guys to tear it out.  The 3.5" drive cage came out easier; it's screwed to the left wall holding the main hard drive (the one in the 5.25" cage in that pic is temporary.)

Not just drives.  That floppy drive at the top is mounted in a 5.25" sled that also has USB ports mounted in it.  I'll get a pic of it when I get home.

I fashioned something similar for another member of this board which was crafted from an old AT case and the trusty dremel tool.

He also wanted a place to mount his PS Supply so it ended up being a drive cage combined with a place to mount PS.

I haven't had a reason to do a similar hack job of late but have lots of old cases lying around.

If you can't get your hands on something local I could probably hack one up for cost of shipping. Send PM if needed.

Exactly what I did with mine.
If you don't want to mess with prying the thing out of the case just drill out the rivets. Quicker, you don't bend the cage, and doesn't require a trip to the emergency room to get stitched back up.

Consider *not* mounting your computer parts to the floor of your cabinet.  It's far too easy to drop something on it and damage it.  Also, consider what might happen if you accidentally dropped something metal like a screwdriver or a token onto your motherboard while it was running and it landed just right (or wrong as the case may be)....  POOF!

Finally, think about what would happen if there were a flood of some kind.  There's a reason that arcade cabinets have the boards mounted to the inside wall of the cabinet.

Oh, and if you have more than one hard drive (it only fits 3.5 inch drives), these are pretty nifty for keeping them cool.  And if you mount it in the right spot, the fan can also help cool your CPU or video card.

That is a slick idea Chris, it also makes the coin door serve a useful function.
(Mine was just going to be ornimental)
