Midway coin door -- please help, if you can
« on: February 28, 2003, 06:29:19 am »
I don't think there's going to be a way to get NOS/replacement parts for this.. but I'm about to put my old Bally/Midway coin door (circa 82-83) back together after painting and when I took it apart before I noted a couple of parts missing.. the $0.25 squares will need to be remade (not a problem -- plenty of spare Lexan) and I'll probably just buy or print a new faceplate, but also the front coin entries (not sure what you call these.. the plastic or metal part that fits on the front of the coin slot [where you actually put the coin in]) are missing and there is some little plastic piece (small rectangular chute, goes between the curved chute and the coin mechs and likely just keeps the coin from bouncing off the top of the mech) which I lack 1 of.

I just really don't want to buy another coin door to get these few measly little parts (I may even just get some tin snips and sheet metal and try to make them before I bother).. anybody have spares or know where I can get stuff like this?  I'll try to post some pics if nobody knows what pieces I'm talking about.

Thanx.

I have a door from the same vintage.  I emailed Bob Roberts about the 25 cent windows and he said that they are impossible to find on the market. I have been unable to find a GIF or JPEG image of them online and have been hesitant to go w/ another design for my door.  If you find a pic of them post it here please!

As for the other parts, I suggest getting a door from an auction or Ebay.  I picked my door up for $25 on Ebay and the mechanized parts are in pretty good shape.

BTW-anyone know how you hook a microswitch up on these coin doors?  I haven't been able to figure it out.

are you guys talking about the coin doors that go on a pacman machine?  I have one that I could maybe scan the .25 window and maybe you could glue that to some lexan...  Let me know if thats what you need and I'll see what I can do...

That's exactly what we need, actually.  The pacman doors where you slide the coin in horizontally, not vertically like all the doors that came later.  If you could make a high-quality scan it would be MUCH appreciated!

Yes, I could use scans of this, too (could use another design since I have a messed up one to compare to, but would rather have an authentic one).. I guess the other parts.. well.. I know where to get another cheap coin door to harvest for $14 complete (not going to say where since he only has one 8)).. maybe I can use the rest for a 1P coin door on a cabaret machine.. anyhoo..

The microswitches mount to the coin door towards the bottom of the door under the coin mechs.. the trip wire bends at a 90 degree angle into a small slotted plastic piece and the coin trips the wire as it passes through the plastic piece (before going to the coin bucket).. the microswitch and plastic piece -- I seem to remember.. not at home once again -- mount to other metal pieces which mount in first.. are you missing one of these pieces, maybe..?  Other than that maybe you have the wrong type of switch?

I have those as well, I MIGHT be able to get scans... I'd have to mail them to my sis though, I don't have a scanner. If you REALLY need them, let me know. They also turn up on ebay once in a while but they're usually not cheap.
I just got my coin door and even though it needs a clean up, i love it. Its going to be a great addition to an 80's themed cab. p.s. I love 1UP! hehe

Sorry to drudge up old news but I missed the post.  I wasn't quite sure what type of microswitch I needed--now I know I need one w/ the long metal trip wire.  I don't think I have the metal pieces that mount the microswitch so I will look around for a picture of a complete mechanism to see what all I don't have.
Thanks.

You know, I was just thinking about his thread.. I still need the front coin entries and the little plastic coin pass-through pieces.. but I found a guy on ebay who seems to be making the little window inserts for $5.95/set.  Beautiful -- reverse screened on some kind of acryllic, available in 2 designs ("25 cents" or "25 <cent sign>"), and even came with the protective sheet still on them.. very professional, I highly recommend this guy's stuff.

If anyone wants it, let me know and I'll post the guy's info.

Yes!  That would be appreciated!  Sounds exactly like what I need.

This seems to fit with this thread as well.

I'm refurbishing my Midway door to perfect condition and I'd like to order one of these as well.

LOL.. yes, yes.. I need one of those plates, too.. I can't decide which style I want, though (I think arcadeshop.com has both).. I should have made note of which one came on mine to begin with..

The seller who I got my window inserts from is rikitikitiki.. he doesn't have any for sale right now on ebay, but I would look up his info there and e-mail him about them (they looked brand new, I don't think there's any way he didn't have these custom made/produce them himself).
