T-Molding
« on: April 04, 2002, 09:52:14 am »
I've received my order of T-molding from happs and am surprised how small the bottom part of the T is.

The width of the bottom is only about 1.5 - 2mm and I can't find a slot cutting router bit small anywhere near small enough. The best supplier in the UK I could find on-line is www.trendmachinery.co.uk/profinder/ but they don't do anything below 3mm.

Any advice?

alot of people use cutting or grinding discs in a dremel tool or similar tool. i used a router bit and its too big but dont worry...hot glue will hold it in place perfect if you go that route. either way works fine.

If the slot that is cut is too deep.  There are two options:
1. Ignore it.  It fits just the same
2. Use a larger bearing.  It won't cut the slot as deep.

Lookup woodworking in the phone book.  Take a piece of t-molding with you.  They will sell you the cutter, the arbor, and the bearing.  I recall the price as reasonable, but couldn't remember what the total was.  Definately a lot less than the $31 that t-molding.com wants for just the cutter without the arbor and bearing.

This is what I'm doing:

I have a smaller handheld radial saw where I can set the depth on it.  I can also attach a guide that will allow me to cut the groove right in the center of the wood.  So as long as you set your depth to fit your molding, you are set.
