HELP! Need advice on capping a Kortek board!!
« on: April 16, 2006, 10:44:12 pm »
I left this on another forum as well:
Hi,
I have a MAME machine for about 2 years now in a "kit" Jamma Cabinet with a 33" sharp image monitor. Recently the screen got real white (like turning up the contrast all the way), and a single retrace line appeared across and down the screen. I could still see the image, but it was real white. This happened over a period of 2 hours. I spoke to a friend in the field and was told its probably a capacitor problem and I should recap the board. The problem is I cant get ahold of SharpImage, and from looking at various sites, I think its actually a Kortek KT-2502LF board. I cant find anywhere a cap kit is availible for this board. Attached is a pic of what it looks like. If anyone knows of where I can get a full or generic cap kit for this board, or if theres more to my problem than a cap, please let me know!
Thanks so much!!
V~

Contact the authorized Kortek service center at www.casinotech.com in Las Vegas.

Thanks for the tip, unfortunately, casino tech doesnt even show that board matter of fact they arent even sure its a Kortek. I found the pic at this link : http://www.zax.com.au/spare_parts/monitor-chassis.html  and the pic of the chassis is identical to mine. Any other thoughts or suggestions?
thanks!

that is a kortek, now i do remember a cap fault similar to what you describe and it was either one around the lopti or on the neck card(i think, but it was a very long time ago),have you tried tweeking your screen volts just in case its a lopti problem.also worth checking for dry/burnt/broken track

Thanks Grant for the board ID. I just need a model # now  ;) The other thing I need is somewhere I can get a cap kit for this. I dont want to have to buy ala carte if I dont have too. To answer your question, I tweaked with all of the color bias and drives, as well as the flyback focus and voltage. I got it to look better, but It still wasnt right. I am also a newb to the monitor chassis weworking, so could you tell me what a "lotpi" is? Im sure its an acronym for something! ;D

Suggest emailing a picture of your chassis to casinotech.com because it's possible it may be known by a different model number.

Also visit www.jomac.net.au/mon.htm and contact Jomac to see what suggestions he has.

I'm having an issue with my 33" Sharp Image monitor and it is model KT-EGA33.  Trying to contact Sharp Image as well without any luck.  My issue is close to yours but my is making the white lines from the image go across the screen to the right.  Almost like it is too bright, even when i adjust all the pots and the flyback its still there.  All i can find is the newer model si- sharp image monitor schematics on the dynamo-valley website which they only have up to 27" posted and told me to contact sharp image.  I found an email address info@sharpimage.net, but with the site being down and no answer on the support number, i don't think i'll have much luck.
