My First Attempt at a MaLa Layout
« on: July 28, 2006, 12:21:43 am »
I finally had some free time tonight to attempt my first MaLa layout.  I have been messing around with the free program "Inkscape" the last couple of days (a great alternative to Adobe Illustrator if want something free) and got the basics down.  I did a Google image search and found some Donkey Kong images and threw this layout together in about 10 minutes.  Now I realize its kinda basic compared to some of the layouts that have been posted on here but I'm extremely happy with this first attempt.  Given a little more time and creativity I could probably come up with some nice layouts, and this is coming from someone who just a couple of weeks ago had trouble even getting a frontend to work.

Cool 1st go!

Have you considered curving the text a bit to make it look like it is a reflection on the circular Kong Head bubble?

Instead of curving, I'd suggest scaling the text size (darn, I'm never next to the program when I'm answering these things) so that it increases in size as it gets closer to the middle. Don't be afraid to have some fun with the colors and fonts, too. Just don't go crazy - one or two fonts is sufficient. See if you can find a pattern for your background - maybe you can find a silhouette of Mario that you can use as a tile in a slightly darker blue.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I'll play with it some more this weekend and post the results.

Yes, my wife usually throws something at me when I can't come up with decent color choices to paint the living room.  :D

I just finished painting the skirting boards. Quite a challenge without pulling up the carpet first. A piece of laminated paper came in handy.

What Forum is this? Oh yeah Software
