printing on polycarbonate
« on: March 11, 2003, 05:24:09 pm »
Hi all,

Yet another thread about artwork and overlays, but with a slightly different spin.

I am having plenty enough trouble finding sheets of Lexan in Aus so I am looking at discarding the whole idea. Well, almost....

I am thinking of getting my artwork printed on a sheet of clear polycarbonate (which is what lexan is.). The artwork would be reversed and the sheet turned upside down so it was effectively on the underside of the sheet. The sheet would of course be rather thin.

Has anyone done this or similar and what was the price range? I have asked a few places for quotes and have yet to hear back.

cheers,
gb

I used polycarbonate for my CPO and marquee.  It turned out extremely good.  I paid a pretty penny for it though.  It was $175 for the two pieces, most of it for the CPO ($110 I think).  If you go this route, go for a textured-polycarbonate for the CPO.  Also, I recommend painting your CP completely white before applying it.  It'll help seal the wood (for the adhesive) and bring out the color more.  The sign shop who did mine also put 3M adhesive on the back.

Here's some screenshots of mine:
