New to cab building - a few questions.

Hi all - sorry if this has been covered but a search didn't turn anything up.

I'm a long time lurker, based in the UK, and now I've bitten the bullet and bought myself a Taito style cocktail (Euro/Aussie style). It's in fairly good condition, but hacked about and incomplete so I'm not too guilty about Mameing it.

This is exactly the same cabinet as Level42 bought in this thread. Same control panels as well.

No idea what game was in it (no boards and the original 2-way joysticks were replaced by 8 way in a rather bodged fashion) It has a 14 inch Sanyo colour arcade monitor, mounted vertically. I'm not using this so if someone in London, UK needs this make me an offer and come and pick it up. I have no idea if it works, but it seems like a fairly recent replacement, no burn in at all. There's also the plastic Bezel (I would like to a fibreglass mould of this if I get the time) and a newish looking power supply going spare.

Alright - 3rd time lucky.  Due to power outages in the Chiswick area my reply to this never got finished.  So here's a short and dirty answer

1) Arcade or pc monitor?  Did you look at the possibility of relocating the large circuit board?  Perhaps ask this in the Monitor/Video section and someone may have the right sized monitor

2)Not sure.  The only thing I know when drilling through steel is having some cooling oil and taking time to go through, but that's from large drill presses or mag drills.  Perhaps see if a machine shop can do it for you?

3)Check out the Artwork section - i'm sure there's an example in there, some vinyl with adhesive backing?

4) No idea

5) You can wire it up to the two inputs on the encoder.

I want to use a PC monitor.
I figured with the 17 that leads were too short to successfully relocate the board, but also the tube ended up resting on the backs of the joysticks with it vertical! So I will try a 15. I will make it fit somehow.

I want to run Fusion (Sega Genesis emulator) as well as MAME, and this crashes when you rotate the display and run full-screen, so it seems a vertical mounting is out of the question.

3) A lot of folks seemed to have good things to say about Mame Marquees, so I'm giving them a try. Just sent my artwork off to them yesterday. I'll let you know how it turns out.
