Chankast Wrapper 2.5 (Alcohol / Daemon Edition) released!
« on: May 21, 2006, 03:33:32 am »
Talk about something that's been on the backburner for WAAAY too long.  This version is fully compatable with the latest version of Chankast.  Also it supports virtual drive mounting via daemon tools or alcohol 120%.  On top of that you can now make cfg files for each game to save individual settings similar to how zinc does it.  How things are done has changed slightly, so be sure to check the readme.txt before using and running setup before even attempting to launch with the wrapper.

As usual, you can find the wrapper in the wrapper's section at my hompage, enjoy!

How is chankast these days?  I never got it to really run any games well... all very impressive, but not really playable (on a 2ghz machine).  I have a 3.4 gig now so do you think I could get some games running?

I have a dreamcast cab so the need isn't really there.  But boy would it be cool to get rid of all the disk swaps at some point.

Chankast runs pretty good for alot of games. 3.4g should run them fine. Although, people should realise that it's not just the CPU but the Video card that makes a big difference too. Onboard video would probably still suck with a 3.4g machine.

Chankast hasn't budged since the 2.5 release a year or so ago.  But with that being said, even on my old crappy pc I could get a lot of the chankast games to run well.  The emulation is suprisingly complete, considering it is only the third release of the emu.

Like hk said, it is very video card dependant, there isn't any point in trying it unless you have a radeon 8000 or higher.  Also you have to tweak the video settings for each and every game to get the games to run well (thus why this release was long over-due on my part).  On top of that the frameskip doesn't work at all so to regulate the framerate you have to over-clock, underclock the cpu (which you can do with this wrapper via the "-cpu" tag).  The only thing you'll really notice from the clock tweaks is sound not always syncing properly.

This is more than acceptable on all games except samba de amigo and space channel 5, for obvious reasons.

That sounds real cool.  I can see myself using this.  Thanks.

Chankast still has some issues. Some games require the CAPCOM tweak etc... Under Defeat  is fully playable with no graphical glitches whatsoever on a 2800+ CPU 1GB RAM. With 3.4Ghz you will get more games running full speed but may still have graphical glitches. Its a shame it hasn't had a new release but it is workable. Howards wrapper should make things a bit easier.
