Mame Resolution Issues

Why is it that when i have MaLa as my front end and the resolution set to AUTO, Mame decides to automatically pick the incorrect screen size for everything except the really old namco and midway roms, is there anyway i can assign a resoluton to each individual rom? or alternatively fix this problem some other way?

What version of mame are you using?

I will use the mame.ini you posted here here to see what results I have.
