Wingman Warrior Questions

I am getting a Wingman Warrior Soon that I wanna use with MAME. It is what I believe an analog joystick and has a 360 degree spinner. Info can be seen here:

I have some questions on it:

1. Does there exist a Windows XP driver for it (searched here and on google but no luck).

2. Can I use 2 of these with my computer ? I wanna use 2 of these for 2 player racing/spinner games.

3. Is the joystick analog and can be use with analog MAME games?

4. Anyone here have one or two of these and have successfully configured it with MAME?

Doesn't use a driver..... Runs under the windows driver.

I hope you're not buying one specifically to use with mame... It's not a great stick in the first place, and certinly not great for mame.  If you're getting it for free then good luck. Otherwise, buy something else.

are you saying that Windows XP will be able to use the throttle/spinner/analog stick on this Wingman Warrior?

I remember WAYYYY back in the day the Wingman Warrior was one of the best mame solutions our there. How times have changed.

Actually, this IS a quality stick, and was the best FPS controller in its day.
Have to agree though that it won't make a good MAME choice in Win2000/XP.
The Logitech site says:

The serial port connection for the WingMan Warrior is not supported under Windows 2000 or Windows XP.
Serial and game port devices are not supported by the WingMan software in Windows 2000 or Windows XP.  To use this device in Windows 2000 or Windows XP, you must use the gameport connection and the native Windows drivers.

Problem with this is that you need the serial connection to access the spinner.
With just the gameport connection, you're limited to a choice between
a joystick+hat switch or a joy+throttle.
P.S. it's an analog stick, remember playing MAME Star Wars with it a long time ago

I would like to know however, if I can use 2 of these on the same PC (along with a trackball or 2).

I have this Wingman Warrior running on Windows XP here,
Joystick works ok. I have a serial port and connected the
spinner to it, but like StuckInJapan said, the spinner dont work
in XP. I'm trying to find special software for connecting
& running harwdare trough the serial port in XP, so far no luck,
and i dont plan to install 98 again

I plan on running Windows 98SE...many have said it is good and preffer it. Or I may run XP and 98SE within it via VMware when I wanna run spinner games.

too bad the spinner isn't hackable to a USB solution

I still think it's one of the best controllers for playing Tron and DOT (other than the original controls of course).

Anyone know if 2 of these can be used on the same PC (with Windows 98SE), and what does the hat switch do? And what modifications to Windows/MAME do I need to get the spinner working correctly?

As far as the spinner/serial port in XP, maybe a serial to USB might work?

Two of the joysticks should work in 98SE, but you would need either two gameports or a gameport splitter cable (or maybe a gameport--> USB adapter).

Regarding the spinner, I am not sure.

Multiple serial spinners are supported under WinXP using MAME Analog Plus or MAME 0.105 or later.  But this particular spinner doesn't work under XP.

Multiple USB mice (spinners) are supported under Win98SE using MAME Analog Plus or MAME 0.105 or later, but I don't think this applied to serial mice. . .

I really only want to use my two WW's for the spinner (the stick I will hack in a dfferent fason). Just as long as I can have 2 spinners working n my CP, that is all I care about.  I already have 98SE on my MAME computerr, so al I need now is the correct settings in MAME to have them work properly. Then more will be done than said

Ultimarc's old serial Opti-Pacs appeared to the computer as two separate serial mice, and that was in the days before XP.  IIRC, Andy used to advocate a special build of MAME called Emu+ (not Analog+). 

For XP users, I was looking inside my Wingman Warrior a while back, and I noticed that the optics on the spinner were those weird 4-leg optics that made older Logitech mice un-hackable.  Which got me thinking that these optics may in fact be hackable to one of those same older Logitech mice.  If somebody has an old un-hackable Logitech mouse sitting around, I'd love to have a go at it.

Honestly... I really wouldn't bother with this. There really are better solutions than this. You're going to be throwing money away here.

To be very honest while these sticks were a solution a few years ago they are simply way too much hassle now and the spinner to be honest sucks in comparison to modern ones.
