It's worth noting that those electronics supply places I posted will also have a wide assortment of multipin connectors for use in the modular CP's I have been reading up on: take your pick of locking, threaded, or simpler types of connectors, anywhere from 3-9 pins up to over 40. AMP and Mil-Spec are reliable manufacturers of such connectors, and Mouser and Digi-Key will sell any type of Molex plug.
