Ps2 CogSwap Loader
« on: May 03, 2006, 11:56:46 am »
Hi all!! recently a friend of mine managed to put HDloader into my mem card, and I'm having a blast with 0 load times. Now I've seen that some people use a tool called CogSwap Loader, this thing seems to work like Swap Magic.

I've looked into google about using this, and it seems ok, but I get confused about the installation process. Has anyone tried using this?, if so how can you copy this to your memory card using HDLOADER .7c?

Thanks in advanced :)

I've never actually used it, but CogSwap just signals the motor shutdown, allowing you to then use the old knife trick to swap disks.  To go about installing this, I would create an exploit disk that can be run from inside the current HDLoader (google Independence Exploit Compiler, version 5 I think).  Make sure you add a BOOT.elf, probably uLaunchElf or MyPS2, then add the HDLoader.elf, CGSLoader.elf (or w/e) + all your other files.  Install it to your Hard Drive from HDLoader, then run it in HDLoader to get your new set of files onto the memcard.

WARNING!!! I HAVE NEVER DONE THIS, HOWEVER< IT IS ADVERTISED AS A METHOD IN THE INDEPENDECE COMPILER, BUT I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR LOSS OF FUNCTIONALITY  :P.  It should work fine though, and I would suggest getting an FTP elf for your PS2 so you can perform easy transfers.  Furthermore, CGSLoader may cause your laser to die earlier, so it should only be used if necessary, or so I hear.  Check out www.ps2hd.com for more information.

Do you have any sort of launcher type software on your memory card that boots first before you boot HDLoader?  Or does your PS2 boot directly to HDLoader.  If you have LaunchElf or Key Launcher installed you can use their file browsing software to transfer the cogswap over useing any type of usb storage device.  Also like SC1103 said you still have to have either a flip-top or a slide card in order to boot backups useing Cog Swap.

SC1103:
Cog Swap doesn't cause your laser to die earlier in and of itself.  Your laser dies earlier because you are playing games off of a disc rather than from the Hard Drive.  The more use in general the DVD drive gets the quicker the laser will go out.  Which is why it is recomended to play your games off of a Hard Drive if you can.

It may not be the laser, but I do remember reading something about possibly the drive motor?  I forget which, I'll try to find it later, but I do understand your reason behind the laser, as my friend has had me fix up his PS2 due to an ailing laser

Well the person that copied the HdLoader used Keylauncher. The only FTP option I've got is the FTP HDLDump. With this I can install my games through FTP. Can I browse my mem card with HDLDUMP???

Coging/Yanking out the drivetray can (and normally does) kill your tray motor..

If you make a new independence exploit with all of your files on it, you can just install it through HDLoader.  THeres an option in the program specifically for this, just take a look at it.  I did it and it worked for me.
