Rom names - How do you clean them up?
« on: April 26, 2006, 06:23:27 pm »
I am using mamewah 1.61 and I would like to know how to get my roms to be displayed without the extra stuff on the end of them like the (U) or (E).  I know these tell you it's a U.S rom or a European rom etc.  Mame doesn't do this but my other emulators such as SNES and Sega Genesis does.  Do I need a dat file or a xml list?  I am more interested in a clean looking list than an informative one.

The only way I know is by using Rename4u. http://www.kellysoftware.com/software/Rename4u.asp You just point it to your roms folder and tell it to remove (U) then again but now (E). Then use artwork renamer to match all your screenshots with your roms.

If you create a custom list in MameWAH it "strips" off all the "junk" by default in the game list.

Atomic FE uses a file called METADATA.  This file lets you rename the displayed name in the game list  to anything you want.  This can be accessed through the built in config program.  I don't know how MameWah gets the information for its displayed lists, but if it just looks in a a text based file (i.e.  "1941 (J) (rev1.5)= 1941"), you might be able to transfer a custom game config. list that you have created in AtomicFe to MameWah.

Your screen name has been added to my frag list.

I took jcrouse's advice and made a filtered list in mamewah.  It took out all the junk, it's nifty.

FWIW, IMHO is is NEVER a good idea to rename your roms. It makes management impossible.

Oh, you meant "it is never a good......".

I was confused there for a second.  I can see how that may cause problems.
