If I can recall correctly bishmasterb wouldn't give out his plans, but that was a long while back... he may have changed his mind

Nope he hasn't.  I tried PM'ing him, emailing him, etc.  basically no response.

it's a shame because he has some of the best bartops that I have seen... I do have some pictures somewhere that he took on a tile countertop that you could possibly use for reference .... assuming the tiles are 12"X12"

I'd also LOVE to see your plans bishmasterb... I've always liked the looks of your bartop.

Also, you could probably just PM Saint.  I know he's offered numerous times to host things relevant to the hobby on this site, so I bet he'd be willing to help out too.  I obviously can't speak for him... but I'd say there's a good chance.

He actually is a very accommodating person. He is probably just busy like many people are. He and I emailed when I designed my bartop, which all the credit goes to him, and I think we actually spoke on the phone once or twice. If I could only remember things anymore.

Okay, Ninja has been kind enough to take on hosting.

FYI: The cabs I built and the plans differ in a couple of minor ways. After I built mine, I decided that the plans should be 1/2" larger in both depth and width to accomodate a wider variety of TVs/monitors.

Also, my cabs use 3/4" MDF for the sides and control panel, and 1/2" MDF for the internal pieces. The plans use 3/4" MDF all throughout. Which means heavier construction of course, but you don't have to buy TWO sheets of MDF to build one.

Anyhow, the point is, please be aware that while I took great care in creating the plans, I have not actually built a full cab to these plans. But the changes were minor enough that I don't think there will be any real issues.

I constructed mine with dowels and glue (no screws) and I think this is the way to go. A dowel jig will only set you back a few bucks, so it's worth it IMHO not to have to putty a bunch of screw holes, or install a bunch of braces.

The plans don't specifically state how the monitor bezel works, so I thought I'd give a little detail: If you look at the side view on the plans, you'll see that between the various internal pieces that span the two sides, there is an exactly 1/4" gap in front of the monitor. I use 1/8" lexan with a 1/8" picture frame matte (black on black) to act as a bezel. The two of these sandwiched together simply sit in place, held there within the gap, and kept in place by the control panel. You can also add a small screw on center at the bottom to hold it in place while the control panel is removed. I've added monitor bezel artwork by simply applying adhesive labels to the picture frame matte.

Any other questions, just ask. I've also given Ninja some pictures, but if you need any more, just let me know.

Also, one more thing. The plans are simply scanned JPGs from graph paper. If someone wants to take on the task of drafting up real plans, I've got no problem with that. However, I would appreciate if you leave the same copyright notice on the plans.

Thanks,

Here is an AutoCAD drawing in PDF format. From a design viewpoint, many of the dimensions are missing so I had to fudge some of the radii.

I believe that you can attach files by changing the file type.  So, if you rename it to a .txt file, you should be able to attach it.

John
From the side view:

Top is 37.75" radius
Top front corner is 0.5" radius
Large front concave section is 100" radius
Front convex curve (by control panel) is 1 and 13/16" radius
Front bottom concave (under control panel) is 1 and 13/16" radius

Hope this helps.

Sorry to nitpick, but the plans look more like they are based on Pac-man/Galaxian rather than Ms Pac-Man/Galaga.

Oh, feel free to nitpick. :)  They are definitely not intended to be an exact replica by any means (they are a bartop afterall). In fact, I wanted a cab that could reasonably be a Pac Man, Galaga, Ms. Pac Man or Galaxian. I just thought it would be really cool to have several lined up together, each with different artwork, color and controls. And of course it goes without saying that I don't think any of those had a vertical monitor setup (at least Pac and Ms. Pac didn't).

But point taken, if you're building an exact replica, these plans are not the way to go by any means.

Lol, no of course not. It was more that the question was for the Galaga/Ms-Pac shape explicitly. Anyway, one could easily change the sides a bit to look more like a Galaga/MS-pac shape. Nice plans BTW!

Unless you use like a 7 inch monitor, that is going to be hard to do, unless you just want the sides stuck on that don't go with the monitor position, even then it will look way to short and fat.

I intended that one could make different styles of cabinets simply by cutting the sides differently. The top curve and the large front concave curve of the Namco cabinets could be cut differently to reflect different styles of cabinet. I was planning on making a Williams series of cabinets using these plans with alterations to the sides, but haven't got around to it.

Hopefully someone will try it, I'd like to see it.

Here is a williams inspired side that should fit.

Or even Crystal Castle.

Why did you move the control panel up? The pointy bit in the side (where the CP is) should be at roughly the same hight as it is in the original version. Otherwise the control panel wont fit will it? Just slide the "pointy bit" down (lengthening the straight line of the front top) and maybe straighten the kickplate (I guess it will look silly at an angle if its so short). Or am I overlooking something why you moved it up?

I left it up, cause to me, it lost all looks of of the galaga/ms-pacman, and looked almost identical to Bishmasterb's side.  If you want them to really want the profile to remind you of galaga/defender/etc you really need the same profile as the original, and just have the side panels being a facade and not true indicators of where the control panel/marqueue/monitor reside.

I'm not to handy in autocad, but here goes.

http://www.landoncrews.com/Bartop.dwg

http://www.landoncrews.com/Bartop.dxf

These are optimized for 2 4x4 sheets to make it easier to take home.

http://www.landoncrews.com/Bartop2.dwg

http://www.landoncrews.com/Bartop2.dxf

Doesn't work in Firefox, but try this in ie.  http://www.landoncrews.com/Bartop/acwebpublish.htm

I downloaded your bartop.dwg and bartop2.dwg, had no problems with the bartop2.dwg file, loaded right up in Autocad Lt 2002.  The bartop.dwg file however said that it was made in an incompatible version.  Curious if you used 2 different autocad programs to create the files and also what versions you used.  Might have found a person with a Water Laser CNC type setup that will help me cut these out.  His machine can accept a full 4x8 piece of material so the bartop.dwg thats not optimized for 2 4x4 sheets could be very useful.

Most of them I remembered to save as for older versions, a few I guess I forgot.  I can make you layouts for any of the sides optimized for 4x8 sheets, optimized in several different ways.  I have a program that optimizes for easiest cuts, fewest cuts, most board left over, biggest pieces left over, etc.

sWampy,
It would be super to get an autocad drawing for a full 4x8 sheet that I can open in AutoCad Lt 2002.  I also have access to Autocad 2006 and Autocad 2006 Lt.  I am hoping to get with a coworker of mine who has a friend with access to a water laser cnc deal, hoping to feed this .dwg file into it and have it spit out the parts cut and ready to assemble.  If you wish to attach that file to an email just send it to  butlerrodney@hotmail.com  I will also monitor this thread if you prefer to post it here.  Thanks for you time and effort.  If all this comes together I will try and gets some pictures of the whole process and post em.

Give me a couple of days, i don't have any time to work on it till the weekend, and if you really want to have the cut that way, I should take the time and make them correctly.  Right now, they don't have any of the internal holes detailed, ie speaker/fan holes, etc.   I threw them together quickly, just to give people a layout idea, I hate having to make patterns and try to arrange them on a piece of plywood to figure out the best way to cut them.   I figured with the quick layout, you could make one with just a tape measure, a straight edge, and a saw, and just eyeball the curves. ;-)

Sorry, but that just doesn't make sense. The Pacman version Bishmaster made is based on the same principle. Basically you cut off the bottom part and yer done. Why would this only work for the Pacman cab? The straight front and the sloped top make it a galaga/ms pac-man. It looks similar of course, but that's ... well ... because they are. Anyway ...

When I took a galaga drawing, cut it off below the control panel, and then enlarged it to the same dimensions as Bishmasters, making sure the top came forward enough to enclose the monitor, it ended looking almost 100% like bishmasters.   I guess it just comes down that to me, if you really want it to look like a pacman/galaga/crystal castle/etc you need the whole profile, not just from the control panel up.   I frankly like the original design, it is a fairly generic look, that reminds me of arcade without pointing to any particular one.

I think I'm going to make me a couple with williams like sides and make me a mini stargate with the correct control panel, and a sinistar.   I might even make a mini tron.

sWampy,
Just a note to let you know I am still checking.  Got a piece of scrap wood heading over to the guy that has the water laser cnc setup.  Should find out monday or so if his machine cuts 3/4" MDF or not.  Have a good weekend.

I updated these Bartop Plans (ie only, damn autodesk) it's now on 4x8 sheet, and has all the  details included.

The original dwg files is at http://www.landoncrews.com/bartop.dwg and http://www.landoncrews.com/bartop.dxf.  Both were exported to acad 2000 format.

sWampy,
Hey thanks for your efforts again.  I have gotten these plans off to the guy I work with, hoping to get feedback from him if this is gonna work out in the next few days.  Will keep everyone in the loop if anything comes of it.

Hello All,
Your not gonna believe this, it all actually has worked out.  I now have in my posession the parts to build not just 1 but 2 of these Bartops.  Now I just need to teach myself how to use the whole dowel, dowel center set, drill, glue deal and everything will just fall right into place.  <---  I wish!!!!
