mamewah background issue, read through tutorial but weird..
« on: March 01, 2006, 03:57:22 pm »
Hey everyone,

I am finally finishing up all my hard work on my artwork, and spent the last hour putting it together for mamewah.

I went through the TXT tutorial created by the owner of cpviewer, and everything is up and running but the artwork.

I know I have to be missing a setting somewhere, but at least it's bringing up the right emulator

Let me know what INI's and files to post if anyone wants to help.

I am using the "custom" folder approach with 1024x768 main.

I looked inside the ini's to see if it was a folder location error, but nothing caught my eye.

I went through the TXT tutorial created by the owner of cpviewer, and everything is up and running but the artwork.

### Artwork Locations ###
artwork_1_image_path
artwork_2_image_path
artwork_3_image_path

artwork_6_image_path
artwork_7_image_path
artwork_8_image_path
artwork_9_image_path
artwork_10_image_path

You need to specify at least one path for your artwork.  The number you use depends on the Artwork # you used in your layout(s) - open the layout(s) and check in the Layout Designer if you are unsure.

Thanks for the reply Minwah,

I went ahead and changed that option but it still has not fixed the issue. I can't think of what it could be at this point. I have double checked all my lines in the ini's, but i still just get a gray background. The format shows up and the default mamewah boxes on the artwork images are found as well.

I'll keep looking but at this point I'm just guessing away.  :) It wouldn't be that I'm using PNG files is it? If this helps, I used mamewah config to check my artwork, and it doesn't preview my artwork. The gray is the color that's default under my layout, but this isn't seen in layout designer (as the image is fully viewable).

(no idea)  ???

Well,

I have looked through everything and there should be no reason why this is not working. I have reinstalled, changed image formats, recreated ini's from scratch.

I used .97 with my own custom images for a year, so I can't really understand why I'm having issues. I updated .net and directx JIC and that didnt' help.

(bashing head on control panel :) )

My guess, since it happened to me, is that it's not actually calling 01Arcade.lay but another layout that has similar, if not identical mame settings with the exception of the artwork.

I basically had to go through each layout until I found which one was doing this to me.

Thanks for the reply  ;D

3/3/2006 12:43:35 PM MAMEWAH launched

3/3/2006 12:43:43 PM Games list read: arcade-0.lst
3/3/2006 12:43:48 PM MAMEWAH quit

My mamewah.txt shows that it's calling up the arcade.lay (which is mine), and I can tell that it's mine because the artwork boxes (although it has a mamewah logo) are placed in the correct spots on the screen. They don't match the positions on the default layouts.

I saw that my desktop was running at 1280x1024, so I turned it to 1024x768 to make sure it wasn't a fluke with resolution. This did not fix the issue, and I will be running the machine on a 19" monitor that will be on 1024x768

I am lost here. Are you simply saying that your snaps don't display? If so please post your ini file. It is very simple and must be a path issue.

I searched the forums and found people had the same issue but no real resolve.

My actual background for mamewah will not show up, no matter what I do. It just always displays the gray (default) color background found under your image in mamewah layout designer.

Also, mamewah is still pulling up the original "mamewah" logos under my artwork, even though I have files already set for those.

I can throw an image of it if you want, just give me an email and I'll send a caputre shot.

Thanks for trying to help :)

My artwork paths in arcade.lay match all locations. Nothing has been moved or altered.

I have seen this before. Are you running the Layout Designer on the machine you will be using the layout on, your cabinet? At some point it did not matter what the path in the .lay file said as it was not read anyways. The file needs to be named properly. if you layout is 01-layout.lay then the background NEEDS to be named 01-main.jpg and be in the same folder as the .lay file.

John that's it!

I went and just changed my background to arcade-main.png to match arcade.lay

the question is, I have also made a message and options background, so what do those need to be renamed to?

Finally, I have two pieces of artwork (#1 and #2) that I want the software to default to if there is no image for a particular game. Should those be placed in the artwork folders that are defined (example C:\mame\snapshot). Or do they need to be with the other files (main, message, option)? And should they be renamed?

THANK YOU SO MUCH, and if you need anything please let me know (not kidding) :).

I believe that applied to 1.61. 1.62, with the config folder, is completely different.
