Looks good, although that trackball could do with being about 3 inches lower.

Never mind just realised thats just a rough mock up. ::)

Often wondered why they hadn't done this as it makes a lot more sense than just having a dedicated TB CP and the standard 2 player X-Arcade has plenty of room for one.

Nice idea. But I think they should also get rid of the eighth button so that each player has a Hotrod style button layout. The extra button just doesn't look right IMHO and I can't think of any game that would need it.

PlayStation, PlayStation2, X-Box, and other consoles.  Unlike HotRod, the X-Arcade is multi-platform and the button are layed out that way.  (Also there's the emus for those systems, real & imaginary.)

Note that I don't have an X-Arcade, and heard enough stuff about it that I'm not planning on buy one.  But we have to think "outside the box", err, remember there are other things besides mame. ;D

I am hoping I can use buttons 7-8 along with trackball. I am curious about how I can get it to work out but I would like to use the trackball like a mouse so I dont have to open drawer to launch other emus and such.  That is just a mock up like image im curious to see what its gonna look like but I called dhl tonight and wont be here till monday now so.........Ill be around next week to write my review.

Just looking at my x-arcade, it's def. wider if that picture is to scale and all.  My player one buttons are directly over my player 1 3rd button row.

Just FYI for people asking.

True. But I can't think of any console arcade style games that require all 8 buttons.

If the rationale behind the eighth button was to provide a diamond shaped button pattern then I think it would have been better to have arranged the 6 main buttons in a modern curved Japanese style.

I think the 7-8 button will make good for use with trackball. I am some creatiuve ideas in mind with the way I mount it to my mame machine but I want to do it and get pics before I post about them

This thing just got here and I opened it . Its real nice! The quality of its excellent for the price. I couldnt build a similiar joystick for any less. I think its a wonderful value and alternative for the pricier control panels . Mainly because of price and size concerns for the smaller 27 cabs. The fact that it can be cross platformed is awesome and a bonus. Anyways it looks great ill post pics tommorow in my review. It has some features that are pretty cool and will definately get some attention. Cant wait to tell ya all about and I just talked to them about new features on the phone and I am thrilled considering I love the trackball games and I have the very first dual X-Arcade w/ Trackball pre production prototype! I have a lot of work to do catch ya guys later.

I bought the single-player X-arcade in January of 2005 directly from X-arcade.  It was advertised as coming with a handful of ROMS and with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

When I got it, it did not have any roms, but rather a link to a French ROM download site.  I discovered that X-arcade offered a BYO kit with a harness that could be used to hook up your own controls.  I called and asked if I could buy the harness so I could expand my controller to 2 players.  That flat out refused.  Since I had had it less than 30 days I asked to return it for a refund then and I would go with another 2 player solution.  They told me they would e-mail me the RMA# and never did.

Based on my personal experience, I feel the X-arcade people are not people of high moral/ethical character.  They misrepresented their product and then refused to honor their guarantee.

Just my 2 cents.

I would like to add that my experience with X-arcade was good.  I ordered the '2 player' arcade stick and a trackball.  The (new) trackball did not work, so they sent me a new complete trackball right away.  Once I received a working trackball, they told me to return the non-functioning trackball.

Good customer service on a bad situation.

I am eagerly awaiting an xbox 360 adaptor.  Hopefully soon they can get a license for it or whatever they need to do.....

I've dealth with the X-arcade UK reseller and they seem nice enough.

I bought the BYO kit and I couldn't fault it.  Its nice and simple and as I intend to fit an xbox - PS2 - gamecube - anything else that will go in, it will be a good system for me.

Actually only ---smurfette--- I did have was that some wires were too short for my panel, but thats easily fixed with some crimping

I bought an X-arcade and found no fault with it during my six months of heavy use.  Yes, it has a different feel that some people translate into feeling cheap.  It also has a slower response than the Ipac (and Keywiz).  But for someone who had been out of the arcades for years and had no other controller for comparison, it worked great.  However, it was lacking a trackball, so I built my own custom controller.  If they had offered this proto back then, it might have been quite a bit longer before I investigated building my own.

I really like the Xarcade BYOA kit. As mentioned above the only shortcomming with it is that the wires on the harness are too short for a couple of buttons. Other than that it is a really nice solution if you are going to mix PC/MAC and consoles with one controller.

Most of the negativity in the past has only been about the controls themselves (buttons and joys) as they are inferior to HAPP parts.

Don't get me wrong... I wouldn't mount one of their CP's to a cab but as a stand alone solution with a little tweaking its a good solution.

I am using mine in a cabinet.

But that being said I believe they furnished me with some HAPP super 8 way sticks as they didn't have their ones available at the time.

To be perfectly honest when it comes to button mashing as long as they live after a serious gaming session I can't complain.  tbh they look like every other button I have ever seen.

They do look like every other button for the most part are just like every other button. The switches they come with are loud and clicky.

I am an amiga turbo joystick boy, loud an clicky is something I am so very used to :)

If fact I am always a bit wary of anything that doesn't make a loud an clicky noise, be it joystick or button.  I always wonder if its working :D

I know 2 people with X-arcades and they don't use them. We play 2d fighting games on console, and it sucks for that. Box has no weight, pcb lags, and the parts are cheap.
I've just built a box out of 3/4" mdf, hacked a DC pad, and installed Happ parts for under 100$. That's what I charged, it costs even less if u have tools.

wow....that's so out of character for XArcade. I've had great success with them over the years and they've always given me a great deal on special requests (like broken XArcades for my modules)....and other odds/ends.

PM who you spoke with (if you know)....I'll let one of the top guys there I work with know about your experience.

hmm.. my mates and I have some hardcore SF2 and UMK3 sessions on an x arcade 2 player panel, none of us have any complaints... I admit, for 4 way games its a bit annoying, but liveable

yep ill post them in the review section here shortly I had received my stick in 4 way mode so I had a little work before I could fully test them. 4 way works ok for classic games but I gotta have 8 way to play my favorites. My digital camera was discovered broken after not using for a few months. The pictures came out bad due to a cheap camera My brother in law had. He also doesnt know how to use it lol. Sorry Tony! will be up shortly. Stilll covering some games. and diffrent versions of mame32. I think there gone so maybe they will sign up some people on a waiting list if really intrested in a cross platform stick.
