There is a local arcade seller, but the problem with that is i set to buy an actual 3s machine with him but it wouldnt fit in my house... so we're not exactly on good terms.

You mean he doesn't like you?

With you're winning personality?  I can't believe it!

Okay, let's start with a clean slate here.  I can see how you're on the defensive after what happened at neo-geo.com, but we really are trying to help.  Let's try to put the pieces together.

well i'm going to use consoles
Since DC isn't an option then you'll be going most likely either PS2 or Xbox.  A used PS2 on eBay sells for $100 including shipping.  I would also hit up your local pawn shops and see what deals you can get.
Quote
what it is required to have is

Official marquee

Marquees seem to go on eBay for around $10 to $20 not including shipping.  You could always get this and head to Kinko's and get it on some backlit film until you can get your hands on a real one.
Quote

Good artwork for CP
Do a search for Capcom CPO here.  Somebody was selling the capcom diamondplate CPO's that were NOS.  Not sure if they are still available.
Quote
Coin Door
Moniter bezel
Black cabinet will work fine
Speakers... nothing too fancy
Backlight for the marquee
All in the above group should be on the cabinet when you get it.  You're in Rhode Island, there should be somebody that's close enough where you can buy a 25" cabinet for $100 without any shipping.  It could even come with a monitor that you can pull out and sell off the recoup some of that dough.
Quote
TV 25-27"
I'm sure you have a Wal-Mart, Best Buy or some other retail store around you.
Quote
Sanwa Sticks
Sanwa buttons
Ponyboy's got the Sanwa buttons for a buck fitty each.  He also has harnesses for the joys that make life easier.  You can get the joysticks here along with buttons if you want to save on some shipping though the buttons cost twice as much as Ponyboy.

Good luck and don't be so rash with peeps trying to give you a hand, dude.

Oh, and not to mention you talking about American Cabs not fitting through your door... are you wanting a Candy cab or something?  I would presume those would be larger than a standard American 25" cabinet although not as tall. My Neo-Geo is 25 1/2" wide with a 25" monitor and my Killer Instinct cab is 28 1/4" with a 27" monitor.

Version A is the CPS3 board u would want.

Astro cities and such are like 600$ + shipping

wiring my own controls isnt a problem i will just hook up some ps2 controls. If someone could get out to me a plug and play way to get my DC and ps2 working on an arcade monitor i would do it that way.

If the cab you buy has a VGA plug (and many do, and they accept both 15KHz (CGA/RGB) and 31KHz (VGA/480p) modes), then you can plug in direct to your Dreamcast via a VGA box ($10 off ebay) and a PS2 to arcade monitor adapter from ultimarc ($22):
http://ultimarc.com/psx.html
http://www.ultimarc.com/JShopServer/section.php?xSec=8

Both of these are literally plug and play.  No soldering, no electronics knowledge required.  Just plug 'em in and turn 'em on!

Both will give you the absolute most genuine arcade experience you can get.  If you hack the controls yourself (which you said you can do, which will save you some dollars), and you have yourself a close-as-heck 3S cab in your own house.

$900 will get you there with cash to spare.

You will find the folks on this board to be extremely helpful, patient, and sometimes funny  ;).  I lurked around here for months, before I even registered, and haven't had to ask a question yet that hasn't already been covered.  A little searching unveils TONS of info.  From what I have found, this is a pretty good group, that seems to believe in something good.

Be nice, and everybody will help.....
Be (not so nice), and strangely enough you will still find people who will give you a chance, and try to help (Witchboard, elivis, and more)

Enough said  :-X

i dunno what route to go...

i'm 17 with a limited budget.

but it will still be nearly impossible to fit it through a door and down the stairs with it's weight... and there are like 25 stairs

I COULD do the jamma option but i have no f'n clue how to do any of that... and wiring up fingerboards and kick harnesses is not somthing i REALLY have time to do... I don't have a soldering iron anymore nor do i want to get another...

also... i have 0 woodworking skills

Sounds like you've got plenty of excuses and another zero in the "how can I solve my problems" department.  Keep pissing on other people and you'll have the biggest zero in the "people who are willing to help me" department.

I've got 3 kids.  2 of them your age or older.  Stuff your "I don't have time" excuse.  You've got very little responsiblities yet in life.  If you TRULY "didn't have time", we'd have never heard from you, because all your time would prevent you from posting here or even playing the game you simply "must have" ::) .  Either it's important to you and you'll make time, or it's something you THINK you "want" but it's really a fad idea of the latest greatest thing you think is teh kewl so you can't be bothered to invest too much of yourself into this.

If you have all the answers to WHY you "can't" do what's suggested, then get working on answering for yourself exactly what you CAN do.  Right now, you have 3 options:

  • lower your expectations/answer your own questions
  • save some money until you can reach your goals easier
  • give up

You've given us all kinds of reasons you "CAN'T" do this the way you want.  When are you going to start showing some appreciation for people giving you ideas of how you CAN meet your goal - you know, those people who DO "have the time" and are willing to freely help you in spite of YOUR crushing schedule and self-importance?

alright... i am not trying to be an ---sufferer of cranial-rectal-inversion---, although i apparentally did come across that way.

The reason most cabinets will not fit in my house and into my basement is because of the angle in which my basement door is and the inability to get it down there due to the layout of my house and way the doors open in that specific hallway.

Bathroom...wall...door...door
Basement Door...wall...door

The basement and bathroom doors open in opposite directions making it nearly impossible to get it in poistion to do so considering the machine will need to be angled in order to get it down stairs.

Now...

I appreciate the help, but i don't appreciate the hate because I do not like the DC version of 3s due to it's MANY imperfections.  You guys may sware by it because it was the first version but even capcom admits that it is FAR from the arcade version.  For example some things that i know for a fact don't work are ken's b+mk linked to SA3 which is a key part of his game.  Also link timing and amount of frames is quite different from the arcade/ps2 versions which have the correct frame data.

The VGA option would work well for me i think if in fact i do go the arcade monitor route.  So thank you for that idea.

I talked to Rod the owner of himura games and i am well aware that he sells those items i need, but i appreciate the thought :)  I'm pretty sure ponyboy only sells the 24mm and not the 30mm for sanwa buttons but correct me if i am wrong.

I already have the ps2 and DC so there is no expense there.

Again, thx for those who understand what i am going through.  I also understand why you guys are getting frustrated with me, but it's just the way i am, i have OCD as well as ADD... which does not help.

Thx to elvis and to witch for the help.

Why not just remove the doors to get the machine in? Doors are easy enough to take off.

The reason most cabinets will not fit in my house and into my basement is because of the angle in which my basement door is and the inability to get it down there due to the layout of my house and way the doors open in that specific hallway.

In that case I'd consider buying just an arcade monitor (which you can just rest on a shelf) and custom sticks.  It won't really look the part in terms of the presentation of the setup, but the picture will definitely be superior to a television.  Plus going that route instead of a supergun+PCB would mean you can play all your favourite games on the same setup (3S, Tekken5, CvS2, MvC2, Guilty Gear, etc, etc, etc).

Cabinets can certainly get chunky, and are a pain if stairs are an issue.  My games room is on the ground floor with a nice big double-doors entrance, so cabs coming and going aren't a problem.  Quite frankly the only limitations to how many cabs I can squeeae in is (1) financial and (2) spousal. :)

No need to be such an ass. You made it seem like the doors were such big issue, I don't see why the suggestion of taking them off is such a bad one. I did think you had thought of this but who knows...

I think you misunderstood what he said.  He wasn't calling you anything, he simply was saying that he hadn't thought of that and called himself a dumb ass.  I don't see any sign of sarcasm in his reply.

I agree with Witchboard.  The kid was chastising himself for not thinking of taking the doors off the hinges.  No harm was directed at "forbiddenlyrics", he was thankful for the suggestion.

Well, either you've got an expensive composite/SCART TV with a great picture, or the candy cabs you were looking at were in pretty bad shape and in desperate need of a cap kit.

The Candies we sell new have a crystal clear picture.  No TV I've ever seen can come close.

i'll suggest cap kitting them to the owner of the arcade
