City of Toledo officials say Scott Leo got his engineering work done on time, so they paid little attention to exactly what he was doing on the computer.

Seriously.  If he did his work who cares?

  • Get your mind out of the gutter. THIS is a dongle.
Cause theres no such thing as 'getting all your work done'.  If you've got time, theres always more work...

More likely he was fired because someone whined about it.  Easier to fire him and look like the city was doing something proactive about it.

Besides, temps are disposable.  You just toss 'em in the dumpster and get another one.

But wasn't it fun to think you won the lottery, just for a second there???

If dude was able to finish all his work AND post from work so friggen often, was he really needed?  They never say what his position was and what his job description was, just that he got his work done.  Stingray has a similar "type" of job - working essentially for the city and is here on the company dime.  Does anyone think he could somehow do MORE work with his free time spent here?  Is he supposed to wander the halls of his school dragging kids into his office so as to remain busy?  Not only does that sound Michael Jackson-ish, but I bet he'd have complaints.

I'd wanna know what this guy's job is, because there's not enough info here.  This could be a Mayor Quimby kind of job appointment or something

He put information about manholes and crap into a database.

I dont blame the guy!  Plus, he gets assigned work for the day, so if he gets his job done hes welcome to do what he'd like until he's assigned other work. If his supervisor came by and said do this this and this, then he would be obligated to do it, but if nobody noticed and he got his work done in the time allotted to him, then go post as a chick all you'd like.

Then this story is focusing completely on the wrong thing.  The guy is a glorified secretary and basic budgeting of hours for the task he's responsible for is way off if the guy has that kind of time "extra".  Sounds like he was hired to make use of budget money that would have to be given back if it went unused.

The problem is with the ass hat responsible for supervising the guy.  THAT is the person who this story should be about.  They clearly state that they paid little attention to him since he got his work done.  They never say whether they were aware if the guy was doing his job RIGHT, either.

That is NOT how the real world works.  If he's done with his work he should tell his boss, who then assigns him more work or tells him he can leave.  Nowhere in the agreement would it say "if you do your work quickly we'll pay you to screw off" if you're paid by the hour.

  • Newer isn't always better.
Chad is right he gets paid to work.  If his boss is monitoring what he does and he's slacking off they should fire him.

I love my job, I only go to this site when my computer is rendering and or compiling, so my company is charging the end client for the time I'm on this site.

I love my job.

It's as if you don't even realize what you're doing yourself!

Of COURSE eleventy brazilian posts would be ok, and we'll work towards that goal as a team, post by stinking post, until we at least hit thread leet status, or tire of the topic, whichever comes first.

Say, why don't you tell us about one of those times when you were talking about something with your friends where you don't recall why you started talking about it, but it made no difference in the world whatsoever what you thought about it.  Mebbe it was about something odd.  A tool.  Or something else you were; going on and on about.
