standalone CP angle

Is there a generally accepted CP angle for a standalone unit? I would assume that it should be the same as an arcade unit. How does a 15 degree slope sound??

Anyone know what the angle is of an XArcade joystick?  I used one of those once and it felt very good.

I don't know for certain but I believe the angle of the Hotrod (which is very similar to the X-Arcade) is 10 degrees.

I believe ~10 degrees is about right.

Could anyone tell me the rough height (from the floor) the control panel 'should' be?  I have picked something that I *think* is OK (don't have the figure to hand) but I'd be interested to know what height's you guys use  :)

Sin(X) = Opposite / Hypotanuse, right?  Then my CP angle is 18.5.   It's based off my double dragon II cabinet (which is also the street fighter II cab too)

so is 10-15 degrees the approxamate angle you ideally want your cab to be?

i will be adding a slope to mine this weekend..  was thinking 10 degrees... enough to give it some slope.. but not too much to where you lean on it funky.. :)

if my observation is correct... (well.. can be wrong...)

cab's ctrl panel is usually more sloped than just a joystick...

I re-do the ctrl of a sf style cab before... and the ctrl panel is like 15 degree slanted...

but if I didn't remember wrong.... x-arcade... or MAS systems sticks.. (stand alone 1 player sticks...) I believe they are significantly flatter....

anyway.... its just how slanted you yourself prefer.. that is most important... good luck...  ;)

I went 15 degrees because I didn't want the edge of my control panel digging into the underside of my wrist's or forearms. You want your control panel on enough of a slant so that you can't feel the front edge of your control panel. Cut a peice of plywood approximately the same size as your control panel will be and use scraps of plywood or something to prop up the back at different heights until it feels comfortable when you lean on it.  Also experiment with the overall height of your panel too. Remember, a little high is better then a little low. Since you will be the primary player of the machine you should factor in how tall you are and then work off of that. If the control panel is even an inch too low for your body height then your lower back will let you know real quick :'(  Who cares what the standard heights and angles are for the machines in the arcade. They were calculated to be satisfactory for people of all different heights . You need to build the control panel height/angle AND the monitor height/angle to fit you like a glove.

DOH !!  ::)
Didn't notice that you are building a stand alone and not a cabinet. I guess you really only need to decide on the angle and not the height in which case I'd still go about 15 to 17 degrees.

I went 5 degrees on my friends stand alone and it feels great. It's really down to personal preference. Our concern was that withh too great of an angle it will bend your wrists too much. We felt 5 degrees was most comfortable.
If you build a frankenpanel, chances are I don't care for you as a person.

My first stand alone panel ended up being about 12 degrees. No scientific reason for that number, that's just what it turned out to be. Seems to be about right.www.themitchells.org/xmame/Control
