The width coils on most hantarex monitors don't use hex keys, they can be adjusted by using a flat heads screw driver. I believe it's counter clockwise (unscrew) to shrink and clockwise to enlarge picture.

I have tried adjusting the width coil and there is no change to the screen size.  Does this mean that I should go and install a cap kit?  Thanks for reading.

Width coils don't work like trim pots, if you turn it slightly it will not reduce/enlarge the size. Does your h-size trim pot function at all?

It should be obvious if the h-size trim pot is not working, it needs to be replaced so you can adjust the horizontal size.

You'll have to excuse me censei.  I'm still green when it comes to these things so I was not aware that it could be that.  I will try replacing the pot and report back my results.  Thanks again for your continued assistance.

I received my replacement 10k trim pots today.  I solder on the replacement trim pot this evening and confirmed that this did not resolve my problem.  I still have no horizontal adjustment.  Looks like it is time to get a cap kit.

Looks like the coil is still at the default position. Here are some things you can try. Adjusting the coil more, bring the ferrit core up higher to the top and vice versa also to see if it enlarges/shrinks (If it feels like it won't turn any more, don't force it and use a mirror while adjusting). For the remote control board, plug it directly into the chassis w/o the cable and try adjusting h-size pot. Check the components running on the h-size line. Check your +B voltage (around 140-150v dc) at the leg of the ceramic resistor near the flyback. I forgot the touch point # for the +B cause I don't have the manual on hand.  :P

hey meanbean, forgot to mention that you should take your ferrite core out (power off) and see if it is damaged or not.

Thanks for the additional information censei.  I have not had too much time to continue my testing the last few days.  Although, I have connected the adjuster board directly to the monitor chassis and noted that the h-size trim pot still did not work.  I should be able to complete the additional steps you have recommended by the end of this week.  Thank you for your continued assistance.
