She had really bad arthritis, she was 14 and today she could barely walk in the morning had to put her to sleep =_(

Sorry man, but I am glad you didn't let your dog continue to suffer. Alot a times people keep their dogs alive purely for their own sake, never caring that the dog has to wake every morning in pain. If there is a heavon, I know dogs are in it!

i put my dog to sleep in june...she was 15, but her last year wasn't too great. it gets easier with time, but i still worry that i didn't put her to sleep soon enough. once they can't walk on their own or can't eat, it's the right thing to do.

Yeah, I put my Aussie down about 3 months ago. She was starting to have a rough time (slip and fall, hard of hearning and eyesight). She just wasn't he dog she used to be. It's the hardest thing I've had to do in my entire life. Time does heal the wound.

thanks guys... yeah it was hard but the last year for her you can tell she was getting old. at christmas her favorite thing is to go crazy ripping all the wrapping paper off the presents while you open them but this year she barely ripped any she was really tired all the time. its weird coming home and not having the dog greet you =(

im assuming we will be getting a new dog soon i havent talked to my mom about it yet

Seph, you did the right thing. It takes a man to put his ill dog's intrests ahead of his own sorrow. Its obvious that you truly loved your dog. As stated above, many people would let their pet continue to suffer just so they don't have to face the grieving. Give yourself some time to grieve and then go to your local animal shelter and find yourself a dog that needs a good home.

You're not replacing your dog, you're just saving another dog that may otherwise be put to sleep for no reason other then an overcrowded animal shelter.

I am so sorry to hear that, i know exactly what you are going through, my last dog had the same problem she was 15 and 6days, and we had to put her down i was heart broken took me ages to sort myself after that........
and nowi just got another dog for my birthday her name is chelsea, she is 9months old now and yesterday she got hit by a car when my dad took her out for a walk she got out of her lead some how and run after a cat when this car hit her.....she is ok now, has brushing on her ribs and could have a rip on her chest musle have to take her bk to the vet this wensday.....

Bummer Seph. Sorry to hear about that. I've got a dog who's 16. She can't see or hear as well as she used to, but she still gets around okay. Even so, I know she won't be with us much longer. I think a lot of people who don't have pets or aren't really close to the pet they have don't realise how badly it can effect you when you lose one.
