I've finally completed the MAME.

It took a while to finish the artwork, but I'm very pleased.
Scott at MameMarquees came through with great work as always!

Looks cool. But you made the classic mistake. Spinner in front of trackball.

I thought of that...but it's actually not as bad as I thought it might be. The way it's set up it's very easy to use without banging your hand on the spinner.

Plus I'm more of a style over substance kind of guy, and the astethics work for me. ;-)

You will know to watch for it, but others...

Here's a quote from RetroActive, who is re-doing his CP layout:
Ok... Now that the machine has been getting some play time... I've realized I made (at least) one critical design flaw with the control panel (see pic)...

the spinner placement...

I was showing GT to a friend and told him before we stared ... be carefull this thing isn't GT friendly... on the first drive WHAM!
NO MORE!!

I was showing GT to a friend and told him before we stared ... be carefull this thing isn't GT friendly... on the first drive WHAM!  I thought he broke his finger... my tornado spinner now has a bit of a crunchy sound when I spin it.  I felt so bad for my friend, I thought for sure he busted his finger...

It's on page 3 of his project thread here:

a friend of mine actually had to have surgery b/c of a GT related injury.  Slammed his hand forward into the monitor, ended up with bone fragments floating around in his fingers.  Some people get way too into GT

More on point, congrats on the completion of the cab.  Looks great!

Who cares about the finger, shame about the spinner !!! ;););)

Am I the only one who dares to say that the monitor is too small compared to the huge size of the cab. Otherwise, very tasteful artwork !

Monitor is a bit small but that could always be upgraded later. Love the art and the cab looks well tied together.

Thanks for the kind words.

As for the monitor, I like the smaller monitor better than the big 25" ones (I'm used to playing older games). I suppose I should have maybe made a smaller cabinet, but I'm lazy and just used Lusid's plans.

Maybe the spinner in front of trackball is a good idea.  Keeps idiots from beating the hell out of your trackball (like a darwin exam).

You should offer up the artwork files.  I thought they were pretty catchy.

Everything looks good. In fact, better than good. But why skimp on the monitor size? That cabinet is so big that it needs a big monitor to fill that sucker out, otherwise it looks a little awkward. But if that's what you like that's all that matters.

Very nice cab. I can understand the the reason for not going with a "drive-in movie" sized display if your main intrest is 80s' classics. A huge moniter always looks sweet but I think they can sometimes make certain games more difficult because the eyes can no longer keep track of the whole screen at once causing virtual blind spots especially when playing fast paced Williams games. Keep in mind that when playing on a typical upright cabinet there's approximately 25 to 30" between a players eyes and the moniter. Thats not allowing very much room for your eyes to try to cover all areas of a 25 or 27" screen. Your field of vision would be pushed to the absolute limit IMO. If anything the cab could have been a bit smaller but since the control panel is fairly large in order to house a wide array of controls then you would have been left with a cab that is being dwarfed by it's control panel. Trying to come up with a moniter/control panel/cab type

I love the artwork, looks great in the photos with Tempest.  Is it original?  Did you do it or someone else?
