Pacman patterns are easiest to execute subconsiously instead of thinking about them.  It takes a lot of practice to move the patterns from the conscious mind to the subconscious, especially if you're nervous and trying to post a high score for MARP.

I've found for Pacman the easiest way to take the edge off is one shot of Jack five minutes before the game starts.  I then like to drink one beer every 5 levels to keep the edge off.  I prefer Dos Equis (XX) because I got used to it when I was diving in Mexico, but Miller Genuine Draft is also good, but only when very cold.

For fighting games, any type of alcohol will embolden your moves and encourage you to be more offensive than defensive minded.

I prefer whiskey because the vomit that has to be cleaned off the bezel and control panel the next morning is not as odorous as the beer induced vomit.

Definately Beer for me...  Galaga and 1942 play excellent when induced...specially if your zoning out!

Scotch catches up with you.   Before you know it..it's 4am and the 750mil bottle's empty.. and for me as a beer drinker..that ain't good... as I once found out  :P

Excellent topic, why didnt I think of it?   It depends on the game.

If playing online 1st person shooters - beer, makes me more violent than usual.  If it is MAME games, then whiskey since, uhhh, Hmmm.  Maybe it more depends on what I had to drink the night before - switch back and forth  between Miller Lite and Ten-High    :)))

If I am intoxicated (even only slightly), I have zero chance of getting a high score on any game. I simply loose all coordination.

I only use alcohol to enhance my high speed riding and social skills.

That's where all the pins and plates came from?  As far as social skills, I lack them sober and they completely disappear when  intoxicated.

;D ;D  Lord if I had dollar for every beer I consumed building, playing and then hanging on this site.....shoot I would own a warehouse of these machines.  How about the time my brothers showed up for my 21st birthday at college.  My youngest brother start playing the locals on a pacman cocktail for beers.....oldest brother finally told him to lose as he overheard some redneck local say if he wins another one there would be a fight......my older bro was too much of a pretty boy at the time.  We still don't  let little bro challenge us to pac man even now.  Built him a cab for his 40th birthday last year.  Yeah I'm that old!!!!

Jeez, if you need to have "enough" money to buy that beer, how much does the stuff cost over there?  Oh, and here's a hack for you.  Find a Brita water pitcher (or some other charcoal-filtered water pitcher) and run your cheap vodka through it.  About 4 times, and you'll find the sweet goodness you never knew existed in such an inexpensive product!  You won't start thinking Grey Goose tastes like that bottle in the medicine cabinet, but you sure won't keep pissing your money away on that overpriced pretty looking bottle.

Oh, and DON'T use that filter for anything else.

"Well ya see, Norm, it's like this . A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers."

You may also want to look into Beatmania.

We've ALL looked into Beatmania.  Some of us have looked into it so much we had to switch hand, and in Bones' case, he had to have metal put into his hands to be able to switch back later in life.

and the obligatory "I'll Beatmania in yer mouth"

Corona is about $65 for 24 full price, sometime can get it for $50 on special.

A six pack is about $20

Compare that to whiskey which usually is, depending on brand, anywhere between $25-$35 for a 700ml bottle.

Local beer (eg Tooheys New) is around $25 a case of 24 350ml bottles but I much prefer the Corona Extra.

I'm more of a vodka drinker...I prefer mixed drinks to beer...not that I'm much of a wine drinker, but I also like a nice 2002 Santa Rita Merlot now and then...helps enhance the experience of Ponpoko geting all those little fruits and vegetables...

I once read a study that showed that the average artist gets more creative after drinking up to 3 shots of hard liquor or a similar amount of alcohol in wine / beer. Basically the alcohol deadened the ability to process logic, leaving a wider door open for the right brain (creative side) to work on any given problem. All of the artists tested had fewer issues with creative blocks. After sobering up, the artists also generally preferred their 3-drink creative work to work created while sober or under the influence of only 1 or 2 drinks. The test went further and found that in all instances, work created after 3 drinks RAPIDLY declined.

So, if you are going to play, having up to 3 drinks may help take the edge off and let you react to the games a bit better. After that your motor skills decline rapidly making it more difficult to play.

Holy Mary Mother of God what is the conversion rate from Aussie to US cause we are paying like $20 for a case of bottles

I was about to comment that Corona cost about $6.50 a sixer around here, and that's too much too pay for the stuff AFAIC. ;)

Do Aussies really drink Fosters, or is it a sham proliferated by the Outback Steakhouse Corporation

I'll stick with Guinness from a tap, thank you.  The little 'whizzer' balls in the can never seem to do it justice.

I've settled for the cans while camping, but I did get laughed at for sitting around a campfire with a beer glass because I refuse to drink beer from a can.

I'll settle for Yuengling, or some Sam Adams in a pinch.  I'm a bit of a beer snob.

Liquor and me don't get along too well since that senior trip to Cancun.  There may still be vomit stains on the wall at the hard rock cafe.

Reminds me of a joke.

The CEOs from Budweiser, Coors, Miller, and Guinness go out to a bar. The waitress comes over and takes their drink order.

The Bud Man orders a Bud Light.
The Coors Man orders a Coors Light.
The Miller Man orders a Miller Lite.
The Guinness Man orders water.

The other three look at him and the Miller Man says "how come you didn't order a Guinness?"

And the Guinness Man says "Well, if you guys aren't gonna drink beer than neither am I."
But wasn't it fun to think you won the lottery, just for a second there???

Not to get to far from the subject but has anyone come up with some good drinking games with their cabinet.

My cab isn't done yet but we do this with the xbox at partys. We use small glasses of beer to prolong the game and usually stick to fighting games and driving games. Twisted metal black is great for this.

When I play vids by myself I drink VODKA.
They treated me like an animal and that's what I became.

I play alone... with nobody else.  You know when I play alone I prefer to be by myself.

One bourbon, one scotch, one beer.

Drinking games...
Well perhaps not. Back when I was in college (12 years ago), we would watch Star Trek. We would come up with a phrase of the day..."Make it so number one", Or things as stupid as the ship com sounds... Deep boop boop.
When ever the phrase of the day would come up, it was bong hits for everyone. Sad were the days when they would go off the ship on some planet and there were no noises. It was a favorite game for us trek nerds.

Just for the record, seeing as our government is fond of spying on it's folks. I no longer use such substances nor have I for many years.

If I'm in front of one of my cabinets I'm chugging down the barley pop.  Doesn't matter if I'm playing or not.  Hey I don't care if the machine is even turned on.

Sometimes I like a nice glass of wine (or 2) with my games.

This is something I need to know too, for when mine is finished.  Soon.  Did wood filler today.  Strange stuff that.  It will stick just about anything except the spot you want to fill.
