I think my hotrods broke...
« on: April 20, 2002, 09:33:34 am »
I was letting my nephews play test the MAME cab and told them to be careful becuase not everything was bolted down.

Well needess to say they pulled my hotrod out of its resting place. I have removed all the wood from the bottom as to make the hotrod fit in the cab....
when they pulled it out they broke off the metal tab thing located at X1 on the PCB, if you go to hanahos site there is a picture of what Im talking about , directly to the right of where you plug in the keyboard and stuff.

Any idea how to fix this?

PS: Moderators, I accidentally posted this in B/S/T forums delete it from there if time permits

I suggest you contact Hanaho at hanahogame@aol.com.     I think you may need to replace X1 and possibly the encoder board.

That metal tab thingy at X1 is the crystal that controls the interface's clock.  If the leads are broken off, which is probable you will need a replacement crystal at minimum to try a repair.  When the crystal broke off your interface may have suffered other damage if any of the parts shorted to touched other metal surfaces.  The crystals are available at electronics supply shops (not usually at Radio Shack).

A 3 or 4 dollar crystal may be worth the investment if you can get an exact match.

If not talk to Hanaho or if you cannot work something out with them that seems reasonable try an IPAC.  You could replace their interface with the IPAC and greatly increase the flexability of your HotRod.  It might be cheaper as well.

leads are broken off, took the thing to all the electronics shops and they all said the same thing "we dont stock those, but we can special order it for you"

combine that with the fact I dont like my skill level in soldering (hence the 200 bux for the hot rod) and you see my dilema.

I mailed hanaho about this right before I made the first post in this thread and I havent gotten a response yet.

Thanks for the help so far, and if anyone has any ideas, Im all ears.

Thom,

If you need a new encoder and if Hanaho wants too much, contact me at tjambro at sigecom.net as I have a spare Hotrod encoder that I originally bought to make my own custom control panel for my Hanaho ArcadePC.  It's brand new, I never used it.  I built my custom panel using an IPAC instead.  I personally like the IPAC better since it is programmable but I imagine you want a plug and play solution so the original encoder would be best.

You're right, I don't think I'm ready to sell it that cheap.  How about $20 + $5 shipping (continental US)?
