Ken Jennings - trivial jerk
« on: July 25, 2006, 04:13:43 pm »
Perhaps you all have heard of Mr. J, the man who won 74 straight Jeopardy matches and 2.5 million?  Turns out he's now turning on the show, criticizing everything from the backdrop to the host.

Yea,  know all about "free speech."  But when you bite the hand that feeds you, it comes across more as "free idiot."  True of ANY ONE who's had their taste of fame (i.e. America Idol contestants), only to stab the source of their fame in the back.

And yes, this is as trivial a thing to get worked up over as one thinks - but the self arrogant air just left me gasping for breath...was choking and had to get it up!   :blah: :soapbox:

Had me curious enough to google a link:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,205450,00.html

His blog has exceeded his bandwidth limits, but the original message is in a google cache, under "Dear Jeopardy":

http://66.102.7.104/search?q=cache:GvBzX9CteMQJ:www.ken-jennings.com/blog/+ken+jennings&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=2

And after reading through it, I think it was slightly amusing and somewhat accurate. It doesn't sound like he's really blasting Jeopardy as much as he's poking fun at it. Must be a slow news day :)

I just watched a special on VH1 about Reality TV and the after affects. (effects?) He is probably just desperate to extend his 15 seconds to 16 and a half.

Apparently, this happens a lot. Nothing worse than being a celebrity for only a day.

Meh, sounded like constructive criticism / joking to me. Fox did a nice job of selectively quoting it, and claiming he "blasts" Jeapardy in the headline.

Slow, extremely lazy, news day today indeed.

It was a freaking tongue-in-cheek entry in his blog.  WTF?  He was just having fun.  I don't think anyone's a bigger JEOPARDY fan than he is.  This is really a non-issue.

Agreed.  RTS, take a deep breath.  It's just a little humor.  Heck, even me reading only some of the jabs on my iwon news page could tell he was poking fun, not, as the headline would've led me to believe, "blasting" Jeopardy.

I would totally start watching TV again for this:

I don't know, I guess my attempts at comedy need more work.  I was hoping the little emoticons would let everyone know I was rambling on about trivial matters, that I really don't have any stake in it, but apparently it came across too seriously.

With all that's happening in the world today guys, I didn't give it more than 5 minutes thought...I just thought it was tacky, that's all.  Moving on! :)

He should have added Potent Potables to the list of catagories.

Actually in the book Microserf's the author describes each person as we meet them with their "6 dream jeopardy categories" That is what 6 categories would guarantee you a win on Jeopardy

It can be a great way to meet people.
