Q*Bert Cocktail question
« on: December 27, 2005, 09:00:29 am »
I asked this on RGVAC but I seem to be invisible there so maybe someone here knows:

I was looking at a pic of a Q*Bert Cocktail and noticed there was no
start button on the player 2 panel.  So if player 2 gets a high score
how do they enter their initials?  Must they rely on player 1 to hit
player one start for each initial?

Anyone know?

You're invisible on RGVAC?  Why?  Try going through google.groups instead. You'll be visible.

I never owned a Qbert Cocktail. If there is a manual on the net, maybe you should download it.

This guy had one - http://home.hiwaay.net/~sandersj/qbert.jpg

Umm, some games have you press left/right to change letter position, rather than use a button. So I assume you just let the timer run out when you're done entering letters.

Your answer lies in trying it out in MAME. I just tried, but playing with an upside-down screen, I can't get a good enough score to get on the high score table!!

In mame, you hit the player one start to enter each initial for player two just like player one.  So, I am trying to confirm that on the original dedicated machine, where there doesn't appear to be a player one start on panel two, if player two must indeed rely on player one for hi score initial entering.  I appears to be the case, it just seems very odd.  I envision my player one opponent being an %&&hole and hitting player one start randomly so my initials get screwed.

Someone replied on rgvac and indeed, player one must help player two enter their initials...weird. :-\

Probably not so weird.  Most if not all the cocktails I have have Player 1 and 2 on the player 1 side.

No big deal in an upright. Same PCB, usually one pin grounded to reverse video for p2.

The Arkanoid Cocktail (all arkanoids are conversions) has it the same way. To continue, the guy on P1 has to cooperate. Not good if that guy sucks  :-X
