arcade monitor - high pitched sound?
« on: January 21, 2003, 03:31:24 pm »
Hi all,

I recently switched video cards from a TNT2 chipset Diamond to a Trident Blade T64. I'm very happy with the output now, the detail and brightness is visibly improved.

However! Since switching video cards, I now notice much increased "high pitched" sound from the monitor (it was always there, but it is about 2-3 times more noticeable). I've noticed that all TV's do this, and some people are more sensitive to it than others, but is there any reason why the sound should suddenly get much more noticeable?

I'm kind of worried about this. Any ideas are much appreciated. :)

It sounds to me that the new video card is driving your monitor at a different refresh rate.  Sometimes, this will cause monitors to make higher pitched noises than before.

In order to fix it, you'll need to change the refresh rates.  I personally have a WG D9200 and a Trident 64, but I haven't hooked them both up yet (I just bought them).  I know that there are some special hacked drivers written for the T64.  You can download them here:

Oh, and yeah, I can hear that damn high-pitched noise all of the time.  I don't really mind it on TV's unless I'm trying to sleep, but when computer monitors do it, I go mad!  Most computer monitors don't make that noise (or a noise that I can hear).
