What IS this thing...?!

It looks like a cross between an arkanoid spinner and rotary joystick....I'm completely stumped!

Did a Tron game have a push-button spinner?

No that would not have come from any Tron game.

It's not really a spinner, I would call it a 4 way rotary direction control.

It looks like Ringlancer is correct.

I looked up Frontline on KLOV and it says the control is a "8-position switch with push-down button".

The same control was used on "Wild Western" and "The Tin Star".

If you check the KLOV listing for "The Tin Star", there is a picture of the CP.

This page has a good picture of the Wild Wsetern CP

http://howervision.com/arcade/wildwestern.html

The same guy also has Frontline.

http://howervision.com/arcade/frontline.html

Click on the CP image to see a larger version.

From these shots it appears that the control in question is from Wild Western, the Frontline control appears to have some text on it.

that is a taito frontline/wild western spinner.
I had 2 of them..both sold...but I can tell you anything about then...they are basically 8way rotary sticks...so in able to have them work corectly with mame you would need a circut like druins but a little more complex because youi either have 1 or 2 connections made at all times ... so..  heck I also had a nos original cpo for frontline and all of the controls....

any other questions just ask

ahhh, good ol' frontline....i remember playing this game in the mall gameroom :D.  it was the predecessor to the awesome ikari warriors game.  i also believe that the game "forgotten worlds" also used this rotary spinner, you just held it down to fire, and rotated to aim accordingly.

I won it.. now to see if anything can be done with it :P

btw, are you sure about Forgotten Worlds? klov.com designates the Front Line 'spinner' as switched and the Forgotten Worlds 'spinner' as optical..?
