T-Molding groove too wide!! Help please

Hi,

The T-Molding groove of a cabinet is too wide (possibly due to the the fact that T-Molding was removed and replaced many times)
Now, when I try to place a new one it doesn't stay in place.

What would you do to correct this problem?

just  glue it, put tape on as you go to hold it. job done

I had that problem with the slot on my Control panel.

Take some duct tape, yeah I know haha , and stick it to the t-molding itself along the part that goes into the wood.  This will help widen it enough that it will fit it tight, but you can still removed it later if you have too.

I agree with the methodology of ArcadeEd. Personally, I'd shy away from glue the whole way around because if the T-Molding ever needed to be replaced you'd have to rip it from the cabinet, which could be a ton of work and leave it in worse shape than it currently is.

If you have a lot of time and want it perfect you could fill in the T-Molding slot with Bondo or something really sturdy and then re-route the slot. Otherwise I'd do something to fatten up the T-molding edge as opposed to gluing it in place permanently.

I used hot glue a section at a time and that worked perfectly.

Depending upon how good you are with hot-glue, you may not get the t-molding to be all the way in... it may end up un-even.  It also depends upon how "too wide" the slot is.

You could use 2 part epoxy wood filler to fill in the entire groove, smooth with a putty knife, sand off any extra and then re-groove it with the correct cutter.

I've had success with HOT glue.  If you use hot glue it pretty much peels off with easily if you need to.  Hot Glue will get the job done and fast.  Taping the edge of the T-Molding sounds like it would take forever.  Filling and re-routing would be the "right" way, but also is a big job.

Depending on your tastes and the condition of the cabinet, you will have to decide.  FWIW I was very pleased with using Hot Glue....

....I had this problem and tried a totally different approach....COTTON....yep....I just jammed some into the loose spot and then pushed the molding back in....and BAM ...the cotton filled the space perfectly and it didn't pop out anymore.....

If you do it...lay the cotton (thin it out) over the groove and then push the molding in.....that way it wraps around the molding itself and doesn't clog the groove.
