JAMMA cab price?
« on: January 01, 2003, 04:33:26 am »
I have the opportunity to buy a JAMMA+ cabinet with Ultimate MK3 installed and a 25" monitor for $295.

The cabinet looks pretty generic, no sideart, but is in good shape with no bad dings or water damage.  Coin doors have normal locks and no padlock addons.  The controls are in good shape and seem to work fine.  There was no readily noticeable burn-in on the monitor.  The marquee is in bad shape, and is badly faded.

I was wondering if this is a good price, or if I might be better off looking elsewhere.

Thanks in advance for any help.
Side Arms, Slam Dunk, Xybots, Arachnid Galaxy darts, Pac Man Plus, Dr. Who, Gauntlet, Centipede cocktail, Hyperball, Tempest, Star Wars, Xevious, Super Hang On, S.T.U.N. Runner, Galaga, Space Duel.

That is the cheapest price you will ever see for a complete 25" cab.  Snag it now before its gone!  I've got two of them for around that same price.

buy buy buy...before the seller finds out what you are doin with this and jack up the price.

I got my gutted cab from a neighbor advertising through this board - free cab and $150.00 25" monitor...  He mostly wanted to get rid of the thing.

THAT was a steal, but having the Jamma guts sure would be nice.  Jump on it.  (Tho I'm no expert on cabinet buying).

Beg to differ: I got the following at auction prices (superauctions, dallas): DigDug converted to jamma shooter, fully working: 75. Tron converted to jamma shooter: 175 (and yes, it includes the blue joystick). Snaake's comment probably applies only to newer jamma games.

Yes, Snaaake (and myself) are refering to the fact that this is a large cabinet with 25" monitor and control panel that fits 2 players comfortably.  Its no comparison to  single player dig-dug cab.  You got some good deals on those cabs, but auction prices vary greatly (depending upon the area/demand)...so I wouldn't quote that as the going rate.

This is a newer cabinet, but I was mistaken on the installed game.  It's Street Fighter 3 Alpha.

Originally the cabinet was a MK2 or MK3.  Nice, large two player control panel.

I'll be picking it up on Saturday.

Thanks for the replies guys.

From the same place, I could also get an NFL Blitz machine with a 4 player control panel for $395.  It's in much cleaner shape, and I'm trying to decide which to get now.  ;)

original dedicated Blitz?
get that then for $395(assuming it comes with the game)...trust me.
you get a 4 players panel and those 49 way joysticks worth money(you could ebay them)
And of course I love the looks of blitz cabinets(or should i say midway cabinets)
.
(EDIT)
Screw the blitz cabinet and go for SF cab since you already have a panel with 6 button SF setup(totally forgot that if you do buy the Blitz cab then you gotta re do the CP or built a completely new one from scratch).

Snake has a good point on the 49-way joysticks (you could sell them on ebay for a nice price)....but in the same token then you have to bother with buying the other sticks and setting it up.  And you are left with a non-original cab if you ever wanted to convert it back and sell.

My opinion, is stick with the Street Fighter cab.  Its a great game you will want to keep anyway (not part out for extra money).   Also the control panel already has Supers in it and the generic 6 button layout, so you don't even have to make a new control panel.  SF Alpha 3 at my arcade sells for over $1000.  I don't know why but the capcom games seem to hold their value more than than others (like blitz).

After looking at everything, I think I'm going to go with the more expensive cabinet.  For one thing, it's in MUCH nicer shape cosmetically (looks basically new), has a better looking monitor (medium as opposed to standard res on the other), and since I don't like sports games, I won't care about removing the JAMMA PCB and putting it on eBay.  As far as the control panel goes, I already have some joysticks I can install in there, and I'm planning multiple swappable control panels anyway.  I'll keep one of the 49-way sticks in case I ever run across a Sinistar PCB.

Also, the game installed on it is NFL Blitz 2000 Gold/NBA Showtime 2000 Gold combo.  Someone is trying to sell the kit for an $850 starting bid on eBay now (and failing).  I figure the joysticks and game will sell for more than the cab is going to cost me.

Although it *would* be nice to have the CPS2 board to plug new games into . . . oh well, if it's still there in a few weeks I'll get the SF3A game too.   :)

Thanks again for all the advice guys.  I think I'm going to get some more good deals from this guy in the future.  He has something like 175 games in storage right now.

You may want to confirm that the monitor is switchable from Med to Std res (I know the NBA Showtime cabs are via a jumper connector).  If it only does Medium, you will have to replace it since no video card or upscan/downscan converter outputs 25khz.

Thanks for that heads up, I would hate to get everything together and find that the monitor won't work.  I'm pretty sure it will be switchable, since it looks to be basically new, and they want the JAMMA to be as trouble free as possible to play different games.

The cabinet itself looks like this: http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=N&game_id=2095  and is pretty much in identical condition to this one.  The artwork is different of course since there are two games.

Looks like I may have shaved off 3 months in building my MAME cabinet though, and the option of JAMMA boards too.  My eventual plan is to have 3 MAME machines.  One horizontal, one vertical, and one with a PC monitor for vector games.

I'm also looking into getting some damaged boards and cabinets and doing some restoration work.

Isn't it possible to output 25khz with AdvanceMAME?  As long as you have a videocard that it supports at least.

Where and how? You can't make a statement like that without backing it up. We all want to know since most of the people that replied to this thread thought it was a deal.

I bought a Jamma-cab (Killer Instinct 2) for about 200$ yesterday, and must say the cab, the art and the controls plus the 25" monitor is in top shape :) It also comes with the original game in it, plus coin-slot etc.

I dunno if you're interested in this, but you can still archive some of them here in Denmark, at a firm called "Elite Games" in Esbjerg!!!

Here's how to get in touch with the guy if you're interested...
Btw. he also got some cabs with 16:9 monitors, can't remember what cabs it was, I just didn't like them very much... but here is some info on the guy...

I'm looking at two very similar games locally.  One is Blitz 99 for $395 and the other is Marvel Vs. Capcom for $375.

Could someone tell me more about the Blitz game?  Would those 49 way joysticks have to be removed to play most other games or to use Mame?

Thanks,
Wade

they are worth money..if there are 4 of them already then you can take all 4 out and sell for atleast...$100..ebay.

And for blitz..the game sucks..its okay but i am never gonna buy any cabinet to play JUST blitz..Its just a football game(okay maybe i dont like it but lot of other people do).

I say get the blitz cabinet because it looks cool(if dedicated) and those 49ways cost a lot more then regular $10 joysticks.i dont think you can interface 49way joystick just like that for mame and stuff(i dont know how but someone else here might know).

Either sell the 49way sticks to cover some of your cab costs, or just hold onto them...they CAN be hacked for use as console analog sticks!  Check out the "Game Consoles" section for the circuit.

I can't see the price on the 49 way sticks on happcontrols.  What is the real street value of these things?  Not counting inflated ebay prices...  what kind of price could I sell them for quickly (for instance, on this board)?  $50 each?
