Need a TV monitor? 27" JVC AV-27530 w/ free shipping!
« on: September 01, 2005, 05:56:03 pm »
Well my search for a 27" television to use as a monitor in my new cabinet has ended!

In my monitor research I discovered that the JVC AV-27530 was highly regarded as an arcade monitor alternative.  The problem is that the unit is now discontinued.  It is tough to find!  Well I just found it and ordered it... and from a REPUTABLE dealer to boot.  None of these crappy fly-by-night Yahoo stores.

This TV is currently available from PCConnection.com for $229 with FREE SHIPPING!  The free shipping is for orders over $249, so just add something small to your cart and off you go!  I added a cheap 54G wireless adapter for $22 to put me over the edge!

Phew... I'm glad that my monitor search is over.

Alright since the tube on my monitor is broken I need something to play the MAME on! I am considering this option but I have some questions........
In order to hook this up with the componet cables to the computer, do I need to buy some sort of adapter?
Also with my arcade monitor it powered on when it got power. I know TVS don't do that.....So I would have to drill a hole on my front glass to be able to push the power button? Sure I could use the remote BUT we all know that loosing the remote is very common!!
I would really like to get the tube fixed on my unit but I can't figure where to get the tube. If I can get the tube for less then this JVC is that the better way to go?
Thanks
AMBER

As far as I can tell, this TV exhibits all of the features that we desire from a MAME cabinet monitor...

1) It apparently DOES power-on with a power restore... meaning you can use a SmartStrip to turn it on and off.  Here's a quote from an actual owner:

Quote
"I went ahead and bought this tv today. I can confirm that it DOES come on once power is restored, and it does return automatically to its last used input."

2) It DOES remember and return to the last used INPUT and CHANNEL upon power restore.

It seems like the perfect MAME cabinet TV.  Do a search on the forums for "JVC 27530" for more information.

And regarding component video, there is a small adapter made by ATI that will output component video for your computer.  It is compatible only with specific ATI video cards.  There have been a number of threads on this in the forum... this one illustrates a typical user experience.
