Hotrod Classic died on me!! Help?
« on: August 18, 2005, 06:46:19 pm »
 ???

It has stopped working... I tried different cables to connect it to the computer... so it has to be a problem in the unit.  I opened it and don't see the problem.  Any ideas on where to look to fix?  Must be a bad connection right?

Well, I have never seen the innards of a Hotrod, but it does sound like either a bad connection somewhere or a fried circuit board.  Are you sure the port you're plugging the Hotrod into your computer still works?

If the board in the Hotrod is dead, maybe you could get a replacement from the manufacturer.  Otherwise, you could wire in your own encoder to the joysticks and buttons--a GPWiz or something like that.

Try the following:

1) Make sure the Keyboard and computer connections are not swapped.

2) Try opening notepad, and press each button and joystick direction and make sure the correct keypress appears in notepad.  Note: some buttons may trigger menus, etc.

3) Some keyboards and/or motherboards don't work well with the HotRod.  I would try another keyboard.

4) If this still doesn't work, your encoder is bad.  Then, I would e-mail support@hanaho.com, or borg@aceisp.net

Actually, we should ask for more details as to what happened before "it stopped working". For all we know he might have reinstalled his OS and has forgotten he needs drivers? Or he accidentally backed over it with his car?

;-)

I'm joking of course. Well, sort of. Bayard, did you change anything on your computer system prior to this? Or was it working one day and not the next with absolutely no changes to the system?

NO MORE!!

I think some motherboards require that a keyboard is plugged into the HotRod...try that if you haven't already.
